It wouldn’t be south texas unless the team was in San Antonio proper. Even then many don’t consider San Antonio to be true south texas. That is actually a good point. My guess is they would have to name it San Antonio or Austin something.

Any city in NC, SC, GA (obviously), AL, or MS would not succeed due to the Bravos.

You got some downvotes but you aren't wrong.

I would also add the FL panhandle and E.Tennessee to your list.

Not sure why everyone thinks Nashville is such a slam dunk. This is not a great time to be trying to cut into the Braves fanbase, which is exactly what a Nashville team would be doing. It's a very transient city with a lot to do and a lot of transplants who already have favorite teams. If they get a baseball team and that team isn't awesome immediately out of the gate, I think they'll struggle more than others seem to.

Good post.

People on here(looking at you WCA) don't realize how big of a footprint that the Braves have. It basically goes from the Mississippi River to southern/eastern Kentucky & Southern W.Virginia.

The Braves' fanbase wouldn't hurt a Nashville or Charlotte expansion team.

The Braves are the dominant fan base, but there are plenty of transplants that aren't Braves fans. They will go enjoy games, even if plenty are rooting for the away team at first.

It takes most expansion teams a while (or forever for the Rays) to establish their own fans.

I think more than likely what will happen is a team gets put between the two kind of like how the Rangers and Cowboys are in Arlington.

Never say never, but I cant see that happening for another twenty years. Dallas to Fort Worth is less than half that distance and have been practically connected for over a century. While the SA/Austin corridor is growing at an insane rate, there is still a whole lot of nothing but interstate construction and traffic between the two.

BUT, if I am wrong, it has to built in San Marcos and the fat Mexican dude that parks himself in the river at Rio Vista park and spins your tube as you go over that dam MUST be named the General Manager.

San Antonio it seems if you ask 10 people their favorite team you’ll get 10 different answers

If you asked 10 people in San Antonio what their favorite MLB team is, 9 would say the Dallas Cowboys and 1 would say the San Antonio Missions. 3 more would jump in just to say Austin sucks.

Orlando- would not do well. Too many transplants while larger areas like Tampa and Miami are doing poorly.

Nashville- tough to get the right coating Braves fans, but good economic area and should have no problem with sponsors and attendance.

Charlotte- similar to Nashville but I think they would be better. The AAA team in Charlotte always leads the league in attendance.

Austin- if it came to Austin, it may be better to put it in South Austin so the San Antonio crowd could also contribute. Lots of astros fans after their success would make it tough.

Louisville- probably wouldn’t dare any better than Cincy or Cleveland. Not high on this one.

New Orleans- no chance. They didn’t support the zephyrs/baby cakes and suck at supporting the Pels too. Plus the area has gone to shite and population is declining. Not a good choice here.

Pat Williams who was the first owner of the Magic is pushing for a $1.7 billion stadium in Orlando. MLB is planning to expand (2 teams) by the end of the decade. Salt Lake City and Nashville are the favorites.

quote:

The ‘Dreamers’ is the moniker for the Orlando baseball franchise.

Williams and his group conducted a study for his pitch. The stadium would seat 45,000 and the group plans to build 1,000 hotel rooms next to it. This would create 20,000 jobs and have an annual economic impact of $1.2 billion for the region.

The pitch for an Orlando-based team is particularly interesting as the state of Florida is already home to two MLB franchises who have both struggled. The Tampa Bay Rays and Miami Marlins have had two of the lowest attendances in the league over the last several years.

Nola could be a successful smaller franchise if they built a 20k seat stadium just off the quarter. But they would need a lot of security watching the parking lots

My god 20k would be a joke. Why even bother

Not at all. I don’t get why people are so adamant about this. Braves country isn’t some impenetrable barrier. The fact it’s so big just shows how underserved the region is. Personally, I’d put a team in both. They’ll have better fans than any of the cities out west.

And if it was Austin/SA I’d say the same thing. They might root for the Astros now, but that would change.

MLB has some weird territorial rules. The Nat and Os have been in litigation for like 15 years.

MLB doesnt want that again in Austin. I would not be shocked if ATL had some claim on the Charlotte market.

swear, some of you are so dumb when it comes to this stuff. Understand the rules...MLB rules state that only 3/4 of the owners need to approve an expansion/relocation of a team. If MLB wants a team in the Austin/San Antonio market...there will be one...PERIOD!! If the owners of the league see how much money it will make them with expansion fees...well then sorry about your luck Dallas and Houston. Again, for the people in the back, it only takes 75% of the owners to approve an expansion team. So Dallas and Houston owners can say no all they want...but if the rest of the owners say yes...then hello Austin Express!!

You do realize that the owners vote on new locations/relocations and the politics that go into that, right?

Hilariously loud wrong post by you regardless
