I don't want to hear that Chip Kelley is a "smart" coach anymore

dude is as dumb and conservative as any NFL coach when he faces a season defining situation.

dumb, long field goal outdoors on a shitty field instead of going for it on 4th and 1

abandoning the run in crucial situations when you have Shady McCoy and Darren Sproles

not letting Washington score a TD here in a textbook "thats the only way you can possibly win" situation

Was it his fault his team missed two FGs and thugged it up for a bunch of penalties and got screwed on a couple?

yes because attempting a 49 yard FG in that situation was idiotic.

Regardless of how shitty his team played and the mistakes they made, he fricked up by not allowing a touchdown after the Redskins got their last first down. That's completely on him.

How do coaches continue to fail at this - how was the Packers correct decision to let Terrell Davis score in that Broncos/Packers Super Bowl not the watershed moment for this becoming a "no brainer"?

It almost worked for Holmgren. Instead of letting Denver run the clock down and win the game like the Redskins just did, the Packers let Denver score and almost came back to tie the game with a TD.

I saw Kelly run the ball with McCoy on 3rd and 1 and he lost a yard.

Then they went for the FG and the kicker missed it. And he's been nails all season long. 4-4 from 50+yards, 4-5 from 40-49yards. He's been excellent all year long. If he makes just 1, you wouldn't be saying it's dumb to kick the FG. The guy just missed them.

Was the percentage chance of scoring an 80 yard drive TD with no timeouts higher than the chance he misses the FG?

Can you prove this to me statistically?

They'd have been down 7, no timeouts, 40 seconds left. I'll take my chances with the FG. Mark Sanchez is your QB.

I do not understand why coaches don't allow the score

Parkey (Eagles kicker) has been an excellent kicker the entire season. It is very uncharacteristic of him to miss at all, and I know that as an AU fan. If he makes those 2 FGs, Philly probably wins.

After the Redskins got their last first down the Eagles took a timeout. They knew at that point that it was coming down to a chip shot FG - unless they let them score. So it's chip shot FG vs. 80 yard drive with two timeouts.

What timeouts? He should have let them score before he started taking the timeouts.

He should have never gone for that second field goal, typically he goes for it there.

You should coach an NFL team. You have it all figured out.

Well if Gruden coached his team will, his RBs would have known not to score even if Philly let them; so it shouldn't have made any difference.
