It has already began. Look where Gameday is this week

I mean its not like GameDay goes on location every week or anything

What much better game are they foregoing this week? And when is the last time they were at ND? There are 4 match ups of ranked teams this week. Stanford @ ND. USCe @ LSU. They were at USCe last week plus LSU lost last week. Texas-OU, had Texas won last week they might be there, they've also been to the RRS several times in the past. The 4th is A&M at La Tech, like they'd go to Shreveport at this point.

Sportscenter broadcasted BKs press conference live yesterday.

Is that the first time they have ever broadcast a coaches PC? How about when they are at that team for GD?

quote:

Herbie, Fowler, etc all want to see teams schedule at a higher level so they would start pimping the ND train as well.

What does this even mean? Its not like they have have never comment on schedules before or that ND has some unprecedented difficult schedule.

It happened last year with Alabama.

Yes, after Ok State lost. They lost later in the year than Alabama. Pretty much for the entire history of the polls, losing later pushed teams behind other teams with the same record. Why was FSU ahead of ND in 93? If both lose, I could see an argument to put ND over Oregon, but that's what we are talking about. Find me a scenario where a team that started ranked higher, won them all and got passed.

Gameday choose the ND game over the LSU game. Very telling from the onset especially since the game is on freakin NBC.

ESPN does not broadcast mundane weekly press conferences but they did yesterday with ND. (not ESPNU, ESPN on Sportscenter - a LIVE broadcast)

Herbie and Fowler do not like teams scheduling non-AQ schools, they have said so several times now.

LOL at you denying the medias influence.

you do realize that Mizzou beat Arizona State don't you?

I do, and at no point said ASU was better than Mizzou. But look at the collective schedules. All I'm saying is at the end of the year Oregon COULD have a better resume than Alabama. It's 10/10, so clearly there is a lot that needs to play out.

All because ND was 4-0...

Now 5-0 and Gameday for Stanford.

If ND keeps winning and beats OU...the media (especially non-CFB Northeastern Media) are going to go gaga...as Notre Dame is the only team they know or care about...and Beano Cook will be on every show reminding us about some game in 1966.

This is only the second time Gameday has been to ND...the other, 2005 #9 ND against #1 USC.

I'm telling you, Notre Dame being relevant gives general sports writers and media heads a reason to talk about college football.

If USC and ND win out...November 24th in LA will be absolutely insane...and the latest Game of the Century.

They did South Carolina last week and LSU is coming off a loss. The did SEC games that were on CBS before. If LSU-USCe was 3 v 4 that would be different.

I'm not denying the media influence, I'm saying its not 100% all encompassing like you suggest. sorry, that you can't see things that are not black and white.

Alabama got hype last year, but OSU still got votes. The AP poll the difference was 18 points. The BCS was the closest margin under the current formula which started in 2004. The computers favored OSU.

I can't beleive I have to argue for ND AND the media. I can find you SI covers with other teams that were 4-0, 5-0 or so, that's not a big deal. Stanford is ranked, I broke out the other options for GD, I can find much worse games they've been to.

I don't doubt that, but I do dispute that it has the all encompassing influence you suggest. So what if some 75 year old blow hards flip out about ND? That doesn't mean people that do follow CFB will suddenly become brainless sheep and vote ND ahead of a team they have been voting #2 all year unless that team stumbles or beats some crap team 7-6.

depends on what else happens. Surely game day will be there, but it will be bigger that the LSU-Bama game last year. They talked about that game for 2 weeks. GOTC is not just used for ND games despite what you might think.

Agree. There is a potential for the media to go nuts over ND, but nothing has happened yet. If ND goes undefeated, they deserve the credit they'll get.

I think margin of victory should be included in the BCS formula. Notre Dame is #1 in the computers despite beating Michigan, at home, by only 7 while Alabama beat Michigan at a neutral site by 27.

You think so doctor? Welcome to 2002.

quote:

The reasoning behind the decision to banish margin of victory before the 2002 season: The BCS didn’t want teams that beat up on weaker opponents to be rewarded for doing so. Never mind that the BCS was actively corrupting the impartiality of its system.

Computers are now a waste of time - which is why they were de-emphasized after USC in 2003 (lack of margin of victory hurt them) and are basically neutered by the polls.

quote:

The entire point of the BCS using computerized ranking systems was to provide some sort of impartiality and balance out the two human polls. The computers count for one-third of a team’s BCS score. Of course, the first time they tried, the computers didn’t jibe with the humans, so the BCS changed the formula three years after it started. Same for the second time the computers failed to agree with the voters. And the third. When the math didn’t satisfy its standards – prop up the big schools, stomp on the small ones – the BCS altered the formula.

“Stern’s analysis was clearly right,” said James, whose revolutionary work with baseball statistics was highlighted in the book “Moneyball” and who has since developed his own college football rating system. “This isn’t a sincere effort to use math to find the answer at all. It’s clearly an effort to use math as a cover for whatever you want to do. I don’t even know if the people who set up the system are aware of that.

“It’s just nonsense math.”
