How's Clemson still ranked above Miami in Coaches Poll?

Miami is undefeated with a win over the team that beat Clemson.
Polls are dumb

If I was a coach I wouldn't take that poll. serious. I'd put Kansas #1 every week until they banned me or did away with the list.

Coaches poll is a joke. But if you look at the points received Miami and Clemson are basically in a tie for 7th. They are separated by 1 point. I guess that means one voter moved Miami down one spot.

not a popular opinion but the top 4 should be decided by computers

For a better comparison-
How is Ohio State ranked above Oklahoma with the same record and a head-to-head loss at home?
How is Auburn with the same record ranked above LSU who beat them?
The problem is the order was decided before the season. Movement afterwards is based primarily on losses. While you can make an argument that the better teams improve as the season goes only, the primary reason losing early is better than losing late is because you have more time to move back up as teams in front of you lose.

Clemson is a better team with a better resume period. If it wasn't for the zero next to their loss record, nobody would consider Miami to be a top 10 team. They don't have a signature win and they've looked uninspiring against very mediocre competition. They needed a TD in the dying seconds to beat a 2-4 Florida State team and a FG in the dying seconds to win against a Georgia Tech team that lost to Tennessee earlier this season. Meanwhile, Clemson beat a good Virginia Tech team handily in Blacksburg and also beat a good Auburn team as well.

Wait, Miami dropped? Is there’s any explanation to this?
Posted on 10/22/17 at 1:10 pm to magildachunks
Because Polls have been about feels.
No pollster is objective - it's all subjective...and pollsters go by preconceived ideas and notions and gut feelings.
And also, Miami does look like smoke and mirrors and Clemson looks like the better team if you actually watch them play.

So now Auburn is a good team again?
Come. Miami just beat the team that beat Clemson.

quote:Auburn's other loss was to Clemson. LSU has a loss to Troy and another loss to a decent team by 30 points. The LSU/Auburn game took place in BR and was very close. It's not that crazy for Auburn to be ranked ahead of LSU. Also, LSU was ranked ahead of Auburn in the preseason Coaches Poll.

Who have they played? Don't understand why people are acting like Miami is that good.

Auburn absolutely is a good team. They have an average point differential of 25 PPG against SEC competition this season. Two losses in brutally tough road environments shouldn't discount their entire resume.
As for Clemson, they had to travel nearly 1,000 miles on a short week. Pete Carroll and 2008 USC lost to Oregon State in similar circumstances. Clemson also lost their starting QB in the middle of the game. It was a fluky loss where a lot of things were against them.

There's quite a few teams that I just don't take seriously in the top 10. When it's all said and done, it will be the usual suspects Bama, Clemson, Ohio state

Miami has a zero next to their loss record because they've played absolutely nobody. At least Wisconsin has dominated their garbage competition. Miami has struggled against their shitty competition. They remind me of that Mississippi State team that started the season 7-0 against terrible teams and finished the season with something like an 8-5 record. Miami won't fall that far because their second half schedule isn't as brutal as Mississippi State's was but they are not a top team by any means.
