I'm sure there have been individual games influenced here and there by organized crime or whoever. Basketball is not easy to rig unless you have the cooperation of almost everyone on both teams. Football you'd just have to get to one qb or defensive back. Basketball is insanely tough bc it's still dependent on players hitting shots. Take lakers vs kings, that infamous game everyone thinks was rigged. First off, the calls weren't THAT bad if you go back and watch. I've seen the rockets get similar calls against the pelicans in both games this year. Second, Shaq had to go 11-14 from the ft line. Shaq shot like 50% on the season. If he shoots his average the lakers lose. And the kings had a chance to win the game if they make like two jumpers down the stretch.
There's too much scoring by too many different players for basketball to be 100% rigged. At most it can be influenced. It's not like soccer where if you have the refs in your pocket you have the game

I think you picked an odd game to highlight as a possible rig. Brooklyn may be up by 18 late, but they're 4-5 from the line compared to Atlanta's 22-22.
The NBA can't shoot 61% from three for the Nets.

Football is too difficult to rig
perhaps the easiest BECAUSE there is so much parity
the talent gap is the smallest from top to bottom and the rules are so ill defined and able to be construed in any way...you can do it without even being obvious. 3rd and 4? holding...drive killed.
other team gets the ball...call a facemask on the D, don't call shite on the O...I cannot even believe you think it is difficult to sway the outcome...by far the easiest of the big 4

I don't think that ALL games are rigged but I have no trouble believing that some games are rigged. That game between the Lakers and Kings some years back was terrible. I think that referee that got caught betting on games even said as much in his book.
There were some pretty atrocious calls and non-calls against the Saints last season with the specter of the alleged bountygate hanging over the team. Goodell seems petty enough to try and influence some NFL games.

let me clarify
I do not think the head office calls down and rigs anything, though I believe the NBA really skirts the line there.
The officials with betting interests sway games and more often than you would believe.

Oh also I've learned on here that the Saints superbowl was rigged to make up for a hurricane 4 years prior.

I don't think they are rigged. However, I believe NBA officials are completely incompetent. March Madness officials make NBA officials look like a joke. It shouldn't be that way.
I'm not a baseball fan, but I love how the umpires don't take s*** from the players. I wish it was like that in the NBA.

it was just kinda the easiest to use. i could pick out other games, but that would have taken time

if ANYONE rigged that game, it was Peyton

no need to even include baseball...Rothstein fixing the world series...it is a proven fraud.
Even one instance, ruins it forever...at least a proven one.

It's much harder to officiate a basketball game than a baseball game. MUCH harder

The NBA Draft Lottery is rigged.
Hell, the entire concept is rigged. They do it the first time when Ewing comes out and the Knicks win it? Come on. They can say it's about the Rockets tanking for the Twin Towers, but that's only the legit, superficial explanation.

and as a byproduct, easier to influence
it is hard because they are so involved
it still amazes me baseball doesn't go to replay. It is two or three close calls a game, why the frick not.

I'd buy the draft being rigged that one time. But devils advocate didn't the Knicks have a decent chance of winning? Over 25% right? That's not like crazy improbable

And Shaq. Everyone knew he'd end up in LA in advance, there's evidence of tampering, but it happens anyway.

The NBA has waaaaay too many coincidences that you can make a case for it on statistical probability alone.
football, I suspect there is a huge problem with refs and gambling...no proof of course

The NBA keeps nationally televised games close until the last 2 minutes, I am convinced of it.
Posted on 1/16/14 at 4:24 pm to lsu480
Except for all of those nationally televised games that aren't close.

this disregards the fact that it is easy for some players at certain positions in certain sports to make a killing by "having one of those days"
it would be unreasonable to think the integrity of each sport is 100% solid
