How have we missed what happened 37 years ago this afternoon?

I remember watching it in my room on my black and white tv. Amazing how they kept it quiet until ABC showed the broadcast at 7 that night. The game was played at 2 in afternoon. What's more amazing is the rink was turned into a bus garage.

Because 37 is not a noteworthy anniversary

I know it's just a bad angle, but the Russian goalie looks like a little kid.

No it should be celebrated yearly as it and Eric Heiden performance basically gave the country a sense of pride and a backbone again.
I'd love to know why they pulled the worlds best goalie. The 30 for 30 never really explained it.

Could you imagine if we had lost to Finland two days later?

Supposedly, Herb Brooks walked into the locker room before that game and said one sentence and walked out. "If you lose this game, you're going to take it to your fricking grave."

Strangely enough, the Soviets would have won the gold.

Close, but he added another "your fricking grave" after a pause.
'If you lose this game, you're going to take it to your fricking grave ....... Your fricking graves'

The TV movie with Karl Malden as Coach Brooks made in the 80's was really bad.

One of the best Hockey games ever. Bought a DVD of the game a few years back.

One of the best? From an American standpoint it is and always will be the most significant sporting event ever. What it meant at the time was unparalleled.

I was thinking of the IBC when I typed that. But whatever.

How? Didn't beating the Soviets put them in the Bronze Medal game, and us in the Gold Medal Game? That implies that the USSR couldn't have done better than 3rd.
Unless things were different back then.
