How do you fix the problem of NBA teams sitting star players?

One realistic way to do this is to extend the calendar a couple weeks to eliminate road back-to-backs, but I have a hunch that that won't fix the problem.

The only way to really do this is to adjust the rules of the game to make it less likely for any given player to play so many minutes per game. So how's this?: If a player commits two personal fouls in one period, he is disqualified until the next period. After six total personal fouls, he is disqualified from the game.

I see two possible effects which are desirable in this context:
1. A star player on defense becomes a target for an offense since now everybody is always in suspenseful "foul trouble."
2. A star player will be given an easier assignment on defense, reducing the natural wear-and-tear.

What do you think, MSB?

Pretend this is improv 101 and just go with the premise.

Because the regular season is boring and means nothing

The season should just be shorter, but the NBA would never do that

Most teams make the playoffs. Which is ridiculous. The regular season is just a formality for the contenders. Until that changes, teams will, and should, rest up for the playoffs.

Ballscaster's dumb rules, my favorite

I have a solution to that too. A playoff series is HHAAHAH. If you're 10 games ahead of your playoff opponent, it changes to HHAAHHH. If you're 20 games better than your opponent, it changes to HHAHHHH. First and second round only.

Exactly. Make the season mean something so they can't afford to do it.

Turn the NBA into a totalitarian state I guess...

How do you draw the line between who is a "star player" and who isn't? They can't sit out games like everyone else because they are too good?

Not even close to the point I'm making.

Coaches like pop and Kerr aren't going to bust their arse and risk injury just to get an extra home game in the first round. Also, this would just make the NBA even more top heavy and harder for cinderellas to win a series.

Players must be medically ruled out by independent doctors or have personal reasons (wife giving birth, etc) approved by the league office or face a suspension and fine for future games.

I don't care about anyone resting players, but if it happens the premium that the teams tack on to certain games for tickets should be refunded. Obviously can't regulate the secondary market, but they can do something about what they can control.

Didn't Lebron go like 6 games in a row without getting a single foul called on him once? How does your proposal do anything for players that aren't foul prone?
