Ron Zook coaching Illinois to a BCS bowl is still one of the biggest "How the frick did that happen" things ever

WKU and Memphis hit the lottery on quarterbacks. They are hardly all around incredibly built programs. All of the major conference teams you've mentioned have had good years since 2000 when they had a good QB.
You don't think that has anything to do with coaching? Is WKU's QB good because he is a unique talent, or is it because he played under Petrino and Brohm his entire career? I mean, did Kansas get to a BCS bowl game because Todd Reesing was an elite QB or was it because he was the perfect fit for Mangino's system?

You can't just compare schedules. WKU plays weaker teams but with comparable talent.

They got it by default because:
Ohio State got to the BCSCG
It was Carr's last year at Michigan--the Appalachian State year
9-3/6-2 was good enough for 2nd place in the confernce

New Jersey has tons of HS football talent. It all goes out of state., Why can't Rutgers keep some home. Jabrill Peppers, wimbush, Minkah Fitzpatrick

It comes down to 3 simple things:
1. Have a quality quarterback
2. Have a coach and coaching staff that can put together realistic game plans for the talent they have
3. Have an out if conference schedule that is not murders row
