RIP, Tal's Hill...:somber:

I've always thought it was strange that this was allowed in an MLB park along with the flagpole being obstacles in the field of play. However, I also always thought it was...I don't know, charming? Is that the right word?

I liked Tal's Hill in CF in Minute Maid Park. It's probably a safer move for the Astros and all visiting teams that take the field...but I'm lying if I say I won't miss it or that I don't like this move.

Both were throwbacks... I think it was old Tiger Stadium that had a flagpole in play?

Are they going to remove the grave when they get ride of the hill or just keep it there?

That stadium is an all-around abomination. Getting rid of the hill is a step forward, at least.

If they would have built a baseball field instead of an airplane hangar it would be a lot nicer.
That is the worst sitelines to go watch a baseball game I've ever been too. The Astrodome was more fan friendly than that place

Yeah I don't like the move, simply because it was something that made Minute Maid unique.

It's been rumored this may happen eventually pretty much ever since new ownership took over. I'm indifferent about it. On one hand I liked the "uniqueness" of it. On the other it always pissed me off when an Astro would hit a shot to deep center that would be a home run in pretty much every other park.

Good. Stupid arse park.

ETA I like the train tracks, though.

When I first saw the park, I couldn't believe an unlevel playing surface was legal. It always seemed a step away from turning parks into putt putt courses.

I think I had my fill of it when Berkman his a pop fly to left field that left the park in the '04 series, I believe. Yeah, both teams have that advantage, but that whole park seemed like a gimmick.

I'm pretty sure the only requirements regarding field dimensions are the dimensions of the infield.

Wasn't Cincy's old park the first one to have a "hill"?

In the old days, ballparks had funky dimensions because they were shoehorned into neighborhoods so it was necessary. This hill is phony. It didn't have to be done. It's fake nostalgia and the decision to arbitrarily remove it proves it.

Fenway had one in the early days before the Green Monster.

I believe Fenway used to have a hill also.

I like the stadium but that hill was just ridiculous. So was having a pole in the field of play.

I don't think so. Riverfront, old Busch, Veterans, Fulton County, and Three Rivers were those cookie-cutter-no-imagination stadiums.

ETA You said old, nvm.
