I'm assuming this is the right board, maybe should go on the Off Topic board.

I was just given two tickets to this race from my company. I've never been out to Barber Motorsports Park and have some questions for anybody that has attended a race. First, it says you can bring your own chairs/blankets for seating while watching the races. Is this imperative? Wasn't aware of grandstand seating or if that was the only option. Second, it says coolers are allowed. I didn't see a "no alcohol" policy with said coolers and wanted some confirmation regarding that.

Thanks in advance. I'll hang up and listen.

Barber is beautiful. Incredible track with elevation changes and good passing spots. There is seating available, but your best bet is to take a chair and walk around to get the race from different vantage points.

Nah, this is Barber Motorsports Park, not Kershaw's Cajun Village in Lake Charles.

Just ignore him. He's the village idiot.

Looks like a hell of a time. I enjoy watching IndyCar. Those machines are incredible.

It is a top notch facility. I'd definitely recommend taking a chair so you can walk around the track find the best spot for you. There is seating available, if you don't want to though.

As far as the alcohol, I'm not 100% sure on that. I know they serve alcohol there, so I don't think it would be a problem. I'd just bring cans, and you'll most likely be fine.

A guy I used to work for in college is big into racing and photography. He posted some amazing pictures from last year or maybe 2 years ago. You need a camping chair that you can fold up and toss over your shoulder. You can walk around pretty much anywhere.

As far as coolers, I think the rule is similar to Nascar tracks, and it has to be under a certain size. I think it is 14x14x14 and must be soft sided. You'll be fine with cans of beer. The only thing is you can't drink on the shuttles.

If you keep an eye out for Fernando Alonso. They said during the F1 broadcast he may be there this weekend I guess to get prepared for his Indy 500 debut.

Sounded like a done deal to me. He will be in the Andretti garage learning how the team works and getting to know everybody.

I think they confirmed he'll be in the paddock @ Birmingham during the F1 race.

I was driving through Birmingham last Monday and took a detour to Barber. The facility was even more impressive in person than through the tv. I lucked out and Indy Lights were there testing too. Walking around, I was surprised how much of the track I could actually see. The sound of the cars through the hills was spectacular.

If you can get a view where you can see turn 5 and the pit straightaway w/ your chair, that seemed like the best view I could find from walking around, and turn 5 is the best passing zone on the track also.

I've been to a couple of the motor cycle races and the Grand Am and Indy car weekend a couple of years ago. The Indy cars were great, but I also enjoyed the Lamborghini, Mercedes, Corvettes, and Porsche cars in their classes. There are races on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The museum is well worth the time and money while you are there. We brought bag chairs and sat under the trees up on the hill along the straight portion of the track.

Barber is like "The Masters" of roadracing facilities. Bring a chair or a blanket. The track sits in a bowl - there are terraced hillsides surrounding the track. Tossing down a blanket or chair in a nice comfortable spot is a great way to enjoy a race there. And their bike museum is the GOAT - it's worth making a trip to Barber just for that.
