Some of the big casinos are at 20-25 to 1 as far as tickets bet on each fighter.

Some were as high as 50 tickets for Conor to 1 ticket to Floyd a couple months ago.

There was a thread a week or 2 ago with people arguing that Vegas always tries to make the money on a fight 50/50 to avoid risk and just make money on the rake. That's wrong for one obvious reason(well, more than one actually), and this fight is a perfect example of that.

Vegas wants all the action on McGregor.

People who know nothing are taking the easy money route.

Why bet $100 to win 20 bucks when you can bet $100 to win $400.

Well you heard where he said that sportsbooks are owned by casinos. That are owned by corporations. Who owe a fiduciary duty to their stockholders. And that these guys get their arse reamed by the man when he calls the next day when they dont try to lessen their risk by encouraging bets on both sides.

I would bet the farm on mayweather. Didn't it open at Mayweather -$1200?

Yea that's why the sports book director was saying he'd take a million dollar bet no questions asked on maywether. Obvi Bc he has no interest in evening the money and lessening his risk.

The problem with Mayweather is he's fighting a UFC fighter - so he's the biggest law of diminishing return since Tyson fought Peter McNeely post prison.

Nobody wants to throw down $500 to win $50.

People will do it but why bet it now when it was -2300 to start and steadily decreasing since then. Why not wait til the last minute and get the best possible line when the line has been consistently moving in your favour since it opened.

all the squares betting early bet on Conor. Most people don't want to risk 500 just for 100. typical square mindset to go for the big payday. At some point the sharps will flood the market and we'll see it shoot back up.

Southpoint took an $880K bet on mayweather and there will be far more to follow. The line will shoot back up this weekend.

Wrong. The number of bets are on Conor, but all the big money is on Floyd. That's from a few sights I've read.

NY Post

“This could be the worst loss in the history of MGM Resorts,” Jay Rood, vice president of MGM Resorts Race and Sports, told ESPN.

quote:

“I’ve never seen anything like this. I can’t believe it’s this lopsided,” Zach Jornlin, sportsbook supervisor at MGM Resorts, told The Post. “There are over 6,000 more tickets for McGregor than there are for Mayweather. … A lot of people hate Mayweather and a lot of people want to see him get knocked out, and make some money.“This would be a really, really bad loss for us.”

quote:

Sportsbooks are hoping that “sharps” — expert gamblers — will provide a safety net, by placing heavy bets on Mayweather later in the week, when the line falls even more, and provides its greatest value for the favorite.

That's insane. I'm not a huge Mayweather fan but, I couldn't see myself really expecting a McGregor win. At least, not enough to bet money on it; even as a longshot bet.

For those of us that don't bet how would that not get him back to even?
Because he's taken SO much more money on Conor so far.

I read an article yesterday stating that 95% of the bets (I think article was about Westgate) were on McGregor, but the money was about even. That tells you everything you need to know. Big boys POUNDING Mayweather

I believe it's wrong as well in plenty instances.

I bet books are still a bit uneasy heading into this fight, though.

It makes sense more bets are for an underdog. Average person is much more likely to throw up 50 for a chance at 250 than risk 250 for a chance at 50.

Yea, it's certainly going to be more uneasy than just a perfect 50/50 split.

But Vegas also knows in the long run they're better than the public at this, so there are times, like this fight, where they don't mind the added risk to have all the money on one side.
