I think they should just let all conference Champs top Indy and a WC in let the NCAA take control of the thing and go with it. The Bowls can adjust.
G5 has a legit complaint and the P5 has one also.
If you make those teams go to FCS you're costing approximate 1000 guys scholarships and that's not a road to go down either.

This post is ignorant. The Sunbelt held its own this year. They are a WMU loss away from being the 3rd ranked football conference in the G5 this year behind the AAC and MWC.

You're comparing apples to oranges when comparing the basketball tournament to an expanded football tournament. It's much easier for a mid-major in basketball to compete with the best in basketball. One player that fell through the cracks could make a much bigger impact.
