Oden just needs to be a Dennis rodman like center and the heat become a much more difficult team to deal with.

Oh. That's it?

If oden is healthy I don't think that is crazy at all. I meant he wouldn't have to do anything offensively with that comment. He was supposed to be a monster on the defensive side coming out of college.

Rodman wasn't a center, should have used Bill Russell.

shite is going to get real when Chalmers and Cole turn into Isaih Thomas and Joe Dumars.

from today's insider. LINK

quote:

The NBA has changed greatly to a game of spacing and agility, and it is harder for bigger and slower players to adapt without wholesale organizational synergistic effort (like Indiana with Hibbert). All Oden has to do is fill a role for probably about 12-15 minutes a night for this to be a worthwhile investment for Miami. For Oden himself, I suspect being able to play regularly after all the setbacks he has experienced will be the sweetest joy in and of itself.

My biggest concern for Oden is this. Miami likes transition basketball.

direct traffic and thwart would-be attacks on the basket. An elite shot-blocker, Oden was able to corral the loose ball (a la Bill Russell) and was an excellent defensive rebounder, with a defensive rebounding percentage in the mid-to-high 20 percent range.

yeah if he could do that, Heat might win four in a row.

No shite. I said a Rodman like player at the center position. Rodman's role for the Bulls was as a defender and Rebounder. He had no pressure at all to carry the team.

Dumb statement. Russell carried his team possibly more then any other player in the history of the NBA. I said Oden just needs to fill a role like Rodman did.

Wasn't aware that Chalmers and Cole were number one Draft picks like Oden was? Oden was probably considered the biggest can't miss other then Lebron coming out in the last 15 years. Durant is pretty close to the next guy on that list and Oden was drafted over him. As I stated earlier, of coarse injuries could make all this moot. IF he stays really healthy then this is huge for Miami.

Hasn't Oden posted a 19.5 PER when healthy? If he doesn't have to play for Heat till last 15-20 games of regular season to get I to game shape and then ready for playoffs he could be an important piece.

The biggest thing he would be able to do is all the crap that Bosh had to do. Now Bosh can be the player that he was in Toronto if Oden is on the floor and healthy.

Heat could run....Oden at the 5, Oden 4, James 3, Wade 2, and Chalmers 1 would be a solid 5 and cause a lot of mismatches

I'm assuming you mean Bosh at the 4? lol, but yeah....the Heat don't have problems with other teams size with that line up. And Bosh shooting Jumpers is all of a sudden a huge mismatch when he not the only post presence.

You're acting like it's feasible that he's going to live up to his hype from 6 years ago when he's sat out for 3 years. That's pretty dumb man.

if he is healthy he will be able to play defense and rebound. that is all they need. IMO comparing Dennis Rodman to Bill Russell or Comparing Mario Chalmers and Cole to Greg Oden's talent is pretty dumb. Everyone knows the guy has the talent. That isn't the issue. Its his health. Supposedly he has sat out long enough to let everything heal. He is only 25. I think he has a chance to contribute. To say he won't be any help at all and there is no chance he will is pretty dumb IMO.... man.

This isn't an ideal line-up for LBJ. For Miami to stay a dominate force they need to continue to surround him with shooters to spread the floor and also rebounders. When they do that Miami is unstoppable and it's been proven. What's going to win Miami a 3peat is the bench, Ray Allen, Birdman, Shane Battier. The starting lineup quoted is only good on paper.

Don't let me dash your dreams of Oden becoming a transcendent rebounder and defender. 25 year olds come back from 3 microfracture surgeries in basketball all the time.

They need the quoted lineup for Indy Chicago and San Antonio. For certain match ups at certain points in playoff games. That is where the heat were exposed even though they won. A healthy oden ends that.

That's just it. He already is a transcendent rebounder and defender. He doesn't have to become anything. He just has to heal. And I've stated in almost every post I've had in this thread that healing is the big question so I don't know what you are arguing there?

So if he does get on the court this year, you expect him to have the same athleticism that he did in his first two years?

No. I'm saying it is possible that he has taken enough time away to recover. He can still be a force on that side of the floor if that is the case. Lets wait and see instead of predicting the worst. The heat get him for the minimum so they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
