Look at Couples, speaking of back injuries. Freddie will compete for 2 rounds, make the cut and then fizzle away.

Couples is 55 years old. When guys reach 45 or so they very rarely compete for wins on the PGA tour. There are reasons that there hasn't been anyone older than 45 win a major in 25 years and only 5 all time.

I agree, but I think those numbers will change soon. All these guys under 40 seem to take care of their bodies like other pro athletes. Rory, Rickie, Jordan, and J. Day are all very physically fit and put a lot of effort into staying that way. Tiger is older, but other than his back injury, he is in great physical health and shape. Lots of these guys do yoga and other training to maintain flexibility and core strength.

Sidenote:
In this respect, Gary Player was decades ahead of his time.

Yep, that was impressive. Can you imagine if that final playoff group had Tiger firing darts in it as well though. One time I just want to see Tiger butt heads with these young guys. They are fearless.

Also, not sure if anyone saw Horschell telling Fowler, "Good shite, good fricking shite" after he walked off 18 in regulation. I thought it really showed how much Fowler is liked and respected by the other guys on tour.

Eh, he's an insider's villain though. There are probably a lot of casual golf fans out there who only have little to passing knowledge of Reed. He's a bland personality for a villain.

He'll get there. Let's not forget that he has more wins than Speith and Fowler.

One of the most universally peer loved players. Hard time rooting against a guy that is so well-liked by the guys he goes to work with every weekend.

Me too. I'm dying for a Tiger-Rory showdown in a major. A legit, Sunday back nine showdown between Tiger and Rory/Bubba/Spieth/Fowler/etc. would be very exciting.

Tiger's big advantage 10+ years ago was that he just intimidated his competition. It was over before the round started. These new guys aren't scared of Tiger. Hell, they probably love the challenge. Tiger's also a victim of his own success in that regard. He's responsible for many of these younger guys taking up golf.

All the guys saying tiger will be back... Have you watched him play lately? I am pretty sure most country club all stars could beat him right now. He sprays it everywhere off the tee, doesn't have the iron game he used to, and can't putt for shite.

I am a tiger fan, but he has looked bad. The announcers were breaking down his swing on Saturday, and on a mid iron his head probably moved down a good 6-8 inches on the downswing. That power squat move he does works great when it's timed right but when he's off, the ball goes everywhere.

I posted something in the tourney thread. That was hilarious. He was amped like he just blasted some rails in the locker room. "Are you fricking kidding me!!"

He's got the MIND. It's the SWING that's lacking.

Tiger needs four majors. That means he would need to have a finish that would match Phil Mickelson's career. You're asking Tiger to have a Hall of Fame Career from now until he's 50. The Tiger I'm seeing right now won't do that and the field is as tough as it has ever been. I'm a huge Tiger fan, but I see nothing special out of him at the moment to make me think he can recapture what he once had.

Ok. Let's not get carried away. He doesn't need to have Phil Mickelson's entire career. He needs to win 4 tournaments.

Without looking it up, my guess would be more than any other golfer on earth.

ETA: after looking it up, only 62 players in the history of golf have had as many or more wins in their entire career as Tiger has had since the 08 U.S. Open

His career since then by itself, even with zero majors, is hall of fame worthy.

He just got top 20 in the Masters and made the cut at the Players which has an elite field of professional golfers.

It was hyperbole, but I'll play along.

I play at Oakbourne in Lafayette, and in fact yesterday I was hitting balls next to Michael Smith, who just made the cut at the Zurich a few weeks ago. Our best players also just won the LGA club team championship.

So that's what club I play at, BUD

Tiger did have 18 birdies this weekend. If he can clean up his game a little, he will still be competing.
