The local sports radio station is running what I think is an interesting bit this morning. They've got PGA pro Paul Stankowski playing 9 holes with only a 6 iron against the stations best golfer with his full bag.

Who would you give the edge to in this scenario? What club would you think about using in a 1 club type tournament? You think you could take down a pro with this sort of setup?

Stankowski is playing with a 6 iron.

Stankowski will shoot about 40 for nine holes.

What would he normally shoot?

Having only 1 club would "only" cost him 4 shots(assuming he'd shoot par)??

off the tee to in the cup with a 6.

No clue how good the station's guy is, they just said he was the best golfer at the station.

The crew on the morning show was throwing out 40 as probably the winning number.

I've played a full 18 with just a 7 iron, putting and everything...it's really not as tough as you would think...I'm gonna give the edge to the pro

The Ticket in Dallas used to hold a one club tourney every year. I'm not sure if they still do. I was told some dude took a putter, bent it to give it a little loft, put a long shaft on it, and dominated the event every year.

I was playing saturday and I used my 6 almost the whole time. It was the only thing i could make solid contact with that day. I'll go with the pro.

I've experimented with this at my home course and 40 is about average or 4 shots over par....unless of course he gets a couple bad breaks

First of all, I love Paul Stankowski. He caught my attention in the 1997 Masters. He was in 2nd or 3rd place after 3 rounds, but some "little boy" was blowing the field away. Paul answered a question, "Yeah somebody can catch Tiger, all I have to do is get about 5 or 6 birdies on the first 3 holes and I'm right there."

And as for the one club, I've heard about tournaments where "one club specialists" can shoot around even par. I'm going to give Stanky a pretty good shot at 2 or 3 over for 9 holes.

I probably should have done this over the weekend.

I was on the losing end of this bet in high school. I was probably 15 or so, and the assistant pro bet he could beat me with a 7 iron. MF'er shot 39 with only a 7 iron and took me down. I was pissed, but it was awesome at the same time.

too many unknowns. How good is the station's best golfer?

What is the slope rating of the course? What tees?

Can Stankowski use a real putter or does he have to putt with a 6 iorn?
