I want to watch a football game not Face the Nation. Bait and switch sucks.

Congratulations, you just illustrated that freedictionary.com is a terrible source. The board is smarter now.

Funny, Twitter lighting up about 900:1 against Costas.

I believe in a world where different points of view get equal coverage, most people would not want this interjected into sports.
In the world we live in, where people are starving for balance, you are probably correct.

Most of the folks here are pretending that they actually watch halftime.
I am willing to bet that most of the folks here complaining about Costas comments didn't actually see it at all.

I think it's great that the pro-name changers keep bitching, moaning and acting like petulant children. Let em. Facts are this: One side has the dodgeball on the playground, and they dictate who gets to play. Thus far, they've taken their ball and gone home, and there's not a god damn thing the other side can do about it.

"Redskin" is a racial descriptor for Native Americans, the origins of which are disputed. Although by some accounts not originally having negative intent,[1] the term is now defined by dictionaries of American English as "usually offensive",[2] "disparaging",[3][4]"insulting",[5] "taboo" [6] and is avoided in public usage with the exception of its continued use as a name for sports teams.
LINK
Redskin is first recorded in the late 17th century and was applied to the Algonquian peoples generally, but specifically to the Delaware (who lived in what is now southern New York State and New York City, New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania). Redskin referred not to the natural skin color of the Delaware, but to their use of vermilion face paint and body paint. In time, however, through a process that in linguistics is called pejoration, by which a neutral term acquires an unfavorable connotation or denotation, redskin lost its neutral, accurate descriptive sense and became a term of disparagement.

I mentioned Fox Sports Radio. There's all kinds of RW political commentary on there.
And then I cited examples of another prominent announcer doing the same thing as Costas (one who works with Bob on NBC now) and two prominent conservative political commentators who were hired to analyze games/the sport. So yeah, even though I don't agree with Costas, I don't feel sorry for all the people who got their panties in a wad over what he said.

I know people are still bent out of shape for Costas mentioning guns in a negative light but nothing he said tonight was unfair. The word "Redskin" is a racial slur and this does separate it from a nickname like "Braves" which is not.

The Butt Hurt is strong in this thread.
I love watching the right wingers of TD (which, let's face it, is 95% of TD posters) get their panties all a-twitter because a liberal dares speak his opinion.

dumb to talk politics during a half time. I'd give it a pass due to bring sorta football related if dude didn't have a history of it. I go to specific places to get bothered by politics, a football game (RL or TV) is not one. I'd say the same shite if the zombified corpse of reagan raped Obama in a debate at half time. Not the place for it.
