if she was truly raped wouldn't the family really want justice?

i just don't know if i believe she was raped. could be a situation at a party.. and then it later got out and she was very regretful or embarrassed..

but yeah FSU probably does just want it to go away.. good point.

IDK what to believe. FSU & the Tallahassee PD handled the situation poorly. But that doesn't immediately mean Jameis raped her.

**Apparently people on twitter are linking this settlement to a documentary piece that Erica did recently.

As did the accuser, which made it harder on the PD and the school.

$950,000. A lot of cash from a school that claims nothing happened.

And has absolutely nothing to do with whether Jameis was guilty or not

she gets $250,000 her lawyers $700,000. Lawsuit was over how FSU mishandled the case not any actual proof of rape.

you sure that's not the other way around? otherwise that sounds like a pretty unethical contingency fee arrangement

settling for nearly a million and yet you say your guy is innocent.

hmmm.. this doesn't seem like good ethics.. will more girls later claim rape by athletes?

Sadly, people get settlements for things that were of no fault of the accused all the time. The bad publicity forces their hand. They'd rather pay to see it go away than fight in court and continue to receive such poor publicity.

It's bullshite, but it's the overly litigious society we have created for ourselves in America.

Amen. The settlement could mean a # of things. The suit could have just been too expensive to maintain.

Although we regret we will never be able to tell our full story in court, it is apparent that a trial many months from now would have left FSU fighting over the past rather than looking toward its very bright future," Thrasher said in the release.

FSU will pay Erica Kinsman $250,000 and her attorneys $700,000, university President John Thrasher said in a press release. He said FSU is settling to avoid spending millions on the lawsuit.

FSU is guilty no matter what.

The Tall Police Department should really get hammered.

I'm shocked Auburn/Alabama fans still think he's guilty. The butthurt will never fade.

Take your fricking football glasses off.

The university and PD mishandled the shite out of this.

Note I did not say Winston is guilty, but no one who looked at this thought it was handled properly.

A girl goes to the hospital the same night she is raped. She cannot even identify who her alleged rapist is at the time. Her parents come to her side that night.

And yet she gets called a slut and everything else because the guy turns out to be a star qb.

I will gladly admit that Cam probably got money. I can sleep fine with that. How can you be ok with obstruction of justice in a fricking rape case?

Looks like you read only what you wanted about the case. The girl had no shot at winning in court after she contradicted herself a million times.

A cleat chaser fricks an athlete. Already has a boyfriend. Claims rape. Contradicts her story.

It was only after the prosecutor's office became aware of the case, 11 months after the reported rape, that actual detective work started. The players were questioned, as were taxi drivers. The bar surveillance footage was sought. DNA linking Winston to his accuser was obtained and analyzed. Prosecutors decided there was not enough evidence to bring charges, but loudly noted there would have been a lot more evidence had police done their job a year ago.

quote:

"I believe that Mr. Winston cannot be convicted," Florida's chief assistant state attorney tells the Times. "I don't necessarily believe that he's innocent."

This has been the prosecutor's office's stance from the very beginning on the rape investigation of FSU quarterback Jameis Winston: that the truth will never be uncovered because of a baffling series of missteps and delays on the part of Tallahassee police.

quote:

In 2014 Florida State reported nine cases of sexual battery (the Times notes this is the same as rape in Florida) to the federal government, according to Ashton. But she testified that over that same time period 113 students reported being sexually battered. Florida State was not required to report most of the other 104 cases of sexual battery because they occurred off-campus, thus exempting them from the Clery Act’s requirement to report all incidents of sexual misconduct.
