Yeah, some days it seems like he's really struggling to keep his train of thought going.

Strawman.

The only legit, public one I've seen are guys who seem to be legit having issues. Like Wycheck, Turley, and Jim McMahon.

They didn't know virtually anything about CTE back then, and it's connection to concussions. Those guys are the ones that are getting screwed. Guys these days at least have the benefit of knowing the connection and can decide for themselves.

And the dozens of other dead players who have been confirmed post mortem, and the untold others who committed suicide under similar situations.

No idea why you're being downvoted.
Your point about self fulfilling prophecies is scary true.

Wycheck was a roid head. He was suspended by the league in 94. I always thought this guy was a little off. No telling what "he" has done to his health besides playing in the NFL.

Well, he seems to be worried about suicides caused by CTE paranoia but not suicides caused by CTE.

I'm not saying he doesn't have CTE, but I'm afraid it is becoming too big of a catch-all. How can we distinguish between those symptoms and just regular old depression/anxiety. It also could lead to some self- fulfilling prophesies, like suicide. Dangerous and scary issue

Right now, there's no definitive way to diagnose CTE before death and autopsy. But there's a belief that repeated blows to the head can increase the risk for a build up of a protein called tau in the brain. That would make it different than depression but unfortunately, they're just now really getting into potential research on diagnosing and treating it while people are still alive.

I do think you'll start to see more definitive evidence of it in a few years. Especially since this isn't just a football thing but also potential effects military personnel and other athletes.

I'm most interested in seeing how this one turns out....

ETA: Also, the buildup of tau is a potential marker for Alzheimer's as well. If you know anyone who has suffered from dementia, they can exhibit similar symptoms like depression, confusion, memory loss, etc.

That's a flippant and ignorant position to take. The NFL did everything that they could to hide these effects for decades. And no, these players did not know that this was what they would be dealing with after they retired. Premature arthritis, sure, but you can't honestly be saying that these people knew that football was going to cause them to lose their minds.

How my professor described CTE is that tau protein is very "sticky" but kept at safe distances from each other. When someone gets a blow to the head, the tau proteins have an opportunity to get closer to one another and the potential that they stick together increases with each repeated blow. Eventually, this tau protein is accumulated and the brain can no longer function like a healthy brain. The aggregations are pretty diffuse and spread throughout.

Setting up so he can murder someone and claim the NFL caused him to do it.

Oh bullshite, It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that football can frick your body up. The early symptoms alone are a huge warning sign.

Yea everyone, these guys totally knew they'd be shooting themselves in the chest to commit suicide but preserve their brains when they were older!!!

I'm not sure how anybody in the "these meatheads knew what they were getting into" camp can defend the NFL burying evidence of what these meatheads were getting into.

re: Chemical plant.

If this hypothetical company knew there was a - let's say newly discovered particulate that caused lung disease in its employees - and used all its corporate power to kill the evidence and discredit the scientists, is that alright?

I get so tired of these athletes getting paid millions and crying and complaining later. High risk high reward job and you took it. I hurt every morning I get up from sports and riding horses growing up among other things. I would do it again if I had the chance so quit crying.

And it doesnt take a rocket scientist to realize inhaling fricking smoke is bad for you, especially with the symptoms alone are a huge warning sign.........

Yet, people actually thought it was good for them.

Hate to hear that. Music City Miracle was one of the best endings I've ever seen in any game.
