While he was grinding out that life in football, which started at the age of five and ended when he was 32, Wycheck also suffered, by his own estimation, 297,000 hits and 25 concussions. Now Wycheck is coming forward to shed light on what he believes could be a battle with the dreaded brain disease CTE, which has directly or indirectly claimed the lives of untold NFL vets over the years. In an interview with ESPN, Wycheck admitted that he suffers from anxiety, depression, and migraines in addition to back and neck pain. He also expressed his fear that he would one day end up as yet another NFL player to commit suicide: "I worry about, I'm scared about the time if I actually get to that point where these guys [who have committed suicide] have snapped," he said. "What has made them snap? And that is what I am scared of, that there is something that is going to come over me that is going to make me snap. "I don't think I am going to do it, but those guys you would never think in a million years would. And that's the scary part about it. There is no one that can tell you really anything. It's just, the damage is done."

Sucks...but he signed up for the shite. Good luck to him

At least he's actually voicing his issues. Instead of keeping this type of brain damage a secret.
After watching the Real Sports segment on Kevin Turner. Former players need to be more vocal about how they feel on this issue.

If you listen to him speak(I used to live in Nashville and he is on the radio there now), it sounds like he is a stroke victim. It is sad

I mentioned him in the Aikman thread the other night along with Steve Young as guys that look and sound permadinged.
He made a quick transition to Nashville media and does a good job, but seems really foggy in his speech and mannerisms. He used to get absolutely blown up in the AFC North days. Those games in the old Three Rivers were brutal.

I'm not saying he doesn't have CTE, but I'm afraid it is becoming too big of a catch-all. How can we distinguish between those symptoms and just regular old depression/anxiety. It also could lead to some self- fulfilling prophesies, like suicide. Dangerous and scary issue.

Yep that is what I say. Guys that work at chemical plants know they are at a much greater risk to get cancer. Police officers know they are at greater risk to get killed in duty. It's life, make them sign a piece of paper staying play at your own risk and call it a day!!

Yeah, I believe him on this. I watched about every game Wycheck played and he got flat-out trucked more times than I can remember.

IMO, we won't be playing football in 100 years.

If anyone has heard him talk on his show every morning, can't say I disagree

Nope, we will be dead.

brain scan
I don't believe there's a scan yet that it shows up on. So far the only way has been to saw a player's dead brain out and do a biopsy of the tissue. So I get his anxiety.
And I also get the skeptics. There were plenty of frivolous claims in the class action and there will be more in the future. I also don't feel sorry for the league, they did their best to screw this up and make it worse.

From what I understand you cannot truly diagnose it until after death.
