Bahrain Grand Prix will be held “behind closed doors” (i.e., no fans allowed), due to concerns over Coronavirus.

quote:

The Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix will be restricted to participants only and no fans will be allowed to attend, due to coronavirus concerns, organisers announced on Sunday.

quote:

Bahrain International Circuit said in a statement: "Given the continued spread of Covid-19 globally, convening a major sporting event, which is open to the public and allows thousands of international travellers and local fans to interact in close proximity would not be the right thing to do at the present time.

"But to ensure that neither the sport, nor its global supporter base, is unduly impacted, the race weekend itself will still go ahead as a televised event."

It's race week! Any predictions?

I'm sure it'll be a Mercedes 1/2 as usual. Is Ferrari really as bad as expected or where they just sandbagging?

I'm really curious to see how Mercedes Point India fairs this weekend.

I've officially labeled Hamilton my least favorite driver, he truly does lack any self awareness to who he is, what he does, and just how much of a pompous arse he comes across as. Yesterday he celebrated International Women's Day by celebrating the women around the globe who fight against climate change, Greta, and a few others I don't know.

My man, as a race car driver, involved in a series that moves thousands of people around the globe, team personnel, fans, the logistics of all of the equipment, etc. while you fly all over the place in a private jet, you may be the worst ambassador for climate change that I've ever seen.

I think they were sandbagging, but some of the other teams looked really good.

Agree with this.

Good racing weekend. IndyCar also opens this week.

Probably a little of both. I'm sure they weren't showing their true pace but I have trouble believing they could hit a 1:15.8 or whatever it was that Bottas ran.

As for Lewis, I have mixed feelings towards him. He's the greatest driver currently and maybe ever. He came from nothing and worked hard to get where he is. He always comes off as humble in his interviews. Always thanks the fans; always thanks his team. On the other hand I'm not a fan of the earrings and neck tats and jet set lifestyle. But it's his life and he gets to live it the way he wants to.

Mercedes domination as per usual.

I have no idea coming out of testing what Ferrari or RBR will have, so that will be interesting to watch.

I think Renault takes a step forward this year, but have their usual reliability issues. Regardless, McLaren, Racing Point, Renault battle for 4th should be good.

Going to guess that Haas sucks again and Gene takes his money elsewhere.

What amazes me is how apparently Merc got the jump on engine development on everyone in the hybrid era back in '14 and has dominated since. But we saw especially last year, that Ferrari had a power advantage. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it is simply amazing that Merc has found the speed that they have from their chassis. So it's not HP, it's not weight, the pure shape/aero is out there on display, but they simply give their drivers the fastest cars on the track every week. You can even support the point by knowing that Williams!! is running Mercedes power units.

Ferrari had the fastest car in a straight line last year but I'm not sure that was down to power. They took downforce off the car so they were fast down the straights but lost time in the twisty bits. And they may have been cheating too.

Merc's philosophy throughout the hybrid era has been to build the best engine and all that extra power lets them put more downforce on so that they're better in the corners.

If Formula One is a battle of one engineering department against another, Mercedes engineers have been handing everybody else their hineys.

Mercedes being so out in front on the PU allowed them to get out in front on the chassis/aero as well. They are a well run organization with as much money as anyone, so no one can catch up.

And they will throw so much money at 2021 I'm not sure how they will be caught. Mclaren running the same engine will be fun to watch. They have the chance to build a better car and Zac Brown is 100% committed to do it.

Ferrari finishes based on how much they spend. Then they whine and threaten to quit.

Being that Formula One travels all around the world, when do they postpone the season due to coronavirus? Heck, one of the biggest teams is in the heart of one of the most impacted countries.

Saw where a few team members were quarantined today. Seems the safest place for the teams to be is halfway around the world from Europe.

Will be interesting to see if the FIA revisits during the off week.

can't wait! I am pulling for LeClerc this year. last year of unregulated spending, so I have a feeling Mercedes will win again.

I figured it wouldn't be long now, now that one team has done it look to see others do the same as well. At this point I'd be surprised if the race even happens.
