It would not surprise me if this weekend gets canceled. If the McLaren team members was at testing or had contact with people that were at testing there's going to be quarantine for all teams. IMO.

I woke up in such a good mood knowing tonight was FP1... Now I'm getting a bad feeling about this weekend.

Kimi doesn't think they should race, Lewis is 'shocked' they're racing.

I can't recall anything like this ever happening.

Can we place bets on how long before he makes an Instagram post about how he can't believe they're racing and that we should enforce stricter travel regulations....then will hop on a private jet to go hype some of his Hilfiger line in some exotic location.

I think they cancel the race. Wouldn’t be surprised if they put the season on hold. So much international travel.

Grand Prix 247 says the Australian gp is cancelled completely

Edit: nvm. Headline was clickbait. They are in meetings about what to do

Two senior F1 sources tell BBC Sport the Australian Grand Prix has been called off. No official confirmation yet from F1 or the FIA

Yeah it's breaking all over.

Motorsport.com understands that in the talks with the FIA and F1 teams, a majority of squads said they were unhappy to continue with the event.

Sources indicate that the governing body said it would accept a majority decision of the teams so would now move to call off the event.

Sucks.

I have a feeling the entire first half of the season is going to be affected. Travel restrictions are going to start happening more and more. People might be stuck in Australia for weeks at this rate.

IndyCar race in St. Pete still on at this point but no general admission. Should we convert this thread over to the IndyCar 2020 Season Thread?

I'm being irrational, because F1 hasn't officially announced the cancellation then for the time being I'm considering the cancellation to be just a rumor.

At least the teams will save the money they would've burned through this year trying to catch Mercedes.

Better for everyone to call the year off and come back hard with the new regs in 21.

Do we really need to see another season with Mercedes killing everyone and Red Bull and Ferrari fighting for 2nd in the constructors?

The corona is good for F1. Next year people will have forgotten how bad the races were and hopefully the new rules will create better racing.

Hopefully by the European season this may have calmed down some.

Even at that time if FIA decides to move forward they might be met with countries that don't allow travel.

Should have raced it today without practice. At minimum would be interesting.

Season looking up for Williams!

Drive To Survive: Season 3 is going to be lit. It'll be two episodes dealing with the testing and then this virus.

A whole season just following Gunter and Ricciardo, I’d watch that.

"All parties took into consideration the huge efforts of the AGPC, Motorsport Australia, staff and volunteers to stage the opening round of the 2020 FIA Formula One World Championship in Melbourne, however concluded that the safety of all members of the Formula 1 family and the wider community, as well as the fairness of the competition take priority."
