In all fairness, I believe I heard that they only ran 16 plays total after that point and 4 of them came on the drive with under a min. So, the split was 5-7. It essentially boils down to the two plays after the Julio catch.

A lot of the credit for the DL can go to Freeney. Wouldn't be surprised if he retired and we hired him as DL coach. Beasley in particular has really gave a lot of praise to Freeney.

I hope you do

Lose your most experienced DLineman and hire a coach with no experience whatsoever? Sounds like a win-win for the rest of the NFC South.

Jarrett and Freeney were pressuring Brady all night.

Debo was dominant at LB in the first half then the pats made some adjustments, including that swing pass right when they high lowed him coming across the middle. Looked like a penalty.

Yeah they missed a chop block on that. I believe it was David Andrews and can't remember the other guy.

Other guy was Shaq Mason

Funny part is, if they had just run the ball 3 straight times and kicked the FG, they would have been up 10 and won the game.

Instead, they have Matt Ryan taking snaps from the shotgun, throwing the ball.

Why are most of you acting like they fired these coaches based on the game?

I am sure they understand the defense was on the field a lot in the super bowl.

This defense was still garbage all year.
25th in yards
27th in points

Is that game the only one you guys watched all year?

Anyone who watched that defense during the season and came away with "still garbage all year" must have had their eyes closed.

They were a young defense that grew over the course of the year. Opportunistic and fast.

They were blowing people out offensively and defensively at the end of the year

The last game their D didn't play particularly well in was Week 10.

Apparently Quinn turned the defense around. From other boards, he toom over after the bye and that's when the defense started playing well

It wasn't the defense plus they have a lot of young talent, Jones was a steal in the draft and Beasley is a stud too.

These are not bad moves. The defense is young and fast because of the players they drafted, not the coaching.

The Falcons allowed the sixth most points in football this season. The only teams that allowed more are the Saints and four bottom feeders (five wins or fewer).

Let's not forget that Smith and Cox were there when the Falcons had 19 sacked in all of 2015. Honestly, I am surprised that they were retained after last season.

So then they are partially responsible for the jump their defensive line made then.

Or did Beasely just become good all of a sudden on his own?

I mean I have 0 issues with the DC part of it as I think that is all Quinn. I don't buy that he wasn't heavily handed int he defense from day 1. That would be like Sean Payton not being in charge of the offense or Saban on defense

I don't understand the dline coach getting fired. Y'all were creating pressure all year.

Well it didn't show in their points allowed average.

The Falcons gave up on average, 25.4 points. Only the Jets, Chargers, Browns, Saints, and 49ers gave up more.

They won a lot because they scored 33.8 points per game. 8+ ppg differential between points scored and points allowed for the Falcons.

But with shakeup on both the offensive and defensive sides of their coaching staff, some regression on both sides might really throw off their chances of making the playoffs next year.

Players often make a jump after their rookie year. That is how football usually works.

Most of the jump should not be attributed to them. I would look more at Quinn and Freeney. I have been unimpressed with them for a while now. Quinn took more control of the defense after the bye (which is why they started trending up).
