We're talking about the GOAT right? Not who's the better player bc considering all the advancements and training development, the competition today is clearly better than in the past as with all sports but nobody in history dominated both singles/doubles like those previous 3 guys relative to their competition.

You're absolutely correct, they were all great all-around players. My only issue with them is the fact that they are left handed and the game of tennis offers numerous advantages to left handed players.

I've always preferred Rafa over Roger, but did Fed just win his 8th Wimbledon in an hour and 40 minutes at age 35? Holy shite.

Not to me, needs to win a Major in doubles and mixed. Until then he's still behind Laver. I don't consider his Olympics Doubles a major though.

He's 1 behind in Singles
3 behind in mixed
2 behind in doubles (if you count the Olympics)

Federer has a winning record on hard courts (10–9) and grass (2–1), while Nadal leads on clay (13–2). Nadal also leads the head-to-head of their 12 Grand Slam matches (9–3), with five of these wins on the clay courts of Roland Garros, and two of the losses on grass at Wimbledon.

The head-to-head looks lot worse than it really is...

Obviously, Nadal is the greatest clay court player we are likely to ever see. 13 of his wins against Fed are on clay. If you take away the French Open wins, then Rafa has a 4-3 advantage in Majors. It's pretty simple: Fed is greatest player ever and just so happened to play at the same time as the greatest clay court player to ever play the game.

I'm not too learned about the principles of tennis relative to dominant hands but I'm sure being right handed has its advantages as well. It depends on the talent and capability of the player with that dominant hand and how they capitalize on it.

Fed is the GOAT because he didn't have to face Nadal, Murray, or Djoko this tourney? Look at his majors resume and it's filled with no names, career journeyman, old arse Agasi, and coulda been a contenda, Roddick. He's got 7 wins against Nadal, Djoko, and Murray in majors. Today, he beats on Cilic and we really think that drives the point home even further?

Dude is awesome and a marvel at 35 years old but I have a hard time calling him the GOAT when you look at his resume compared to others. And the H2H with Nadal can't be ignored. Nadal's injuries really skew the amount of majors he could have in other majors as well, but it's part of it so not sure to call him GOAT either, but he, Djoko and Murray are playing in a era where their wins are against top notch competition. Laver is a great choice. I was hoping Djoko was going to continue his 2011 and 2015 type campaigns and he'd have passed Roger in a few years, but now who knows.

I don't know where you came up with 7 wins in Majors, but that number is 14 wins in Majors against those guys. Doesn't matter that it wasn't in the Final. His semifinal streak will never be touched.

It's really crazy to me that you can even try and argue he isn't best ever. He's 4 Majors ahead of the next guy.

So Fed is not as good because these guys couldn't even make the final? WTF kind of sense does that make?

Except he's behind Laver in Majors (if you count Laver's Pro Majors) and has no doubles Majors.

He also doesn't have a calendar slam which Laver has 3 (amateur 1962 , pro 1967, open era 1969)

Two best players of all time are Nadal and Federer. Yet, because neither plays doubles except for olympics or Indian Wells, they can't be the GOAT? Sorry, but thats pretty stupid.

The biggest advantage a left hander has is in service games. Majority of games end on the Add side of the court which allows a left hander to serve out wide. Which opens up the entire court at a minimum.

Nadal's peak was not better than Federer's. He just happened to play Federer a lot on clay during his peak. Remember, Rafa is younger too. Rafa has 4 grand slams outside of the French Open, Federer has 11 Grand Slams outside of Wimbledon.

5 outside of the French Open for Rafa.

I believe Federer is the best ever, as of now. I think Rafa is second or third, but he's not only just some clay court great, either.

If you take out every French Open Nadal has ever played, he'd still be 8th all-time in slam final appearances.

In the same way Federer would have 25+ slams if Nadal never came along, Nadal would have 20+ slams if Djokovic never came along. Part of Nadal's peak coincided with maybe the greatest snapshot of tennis ever played - 2011 Djokovic.
