I think the Mavs will surprise some people. Carlisle has been the 2nd best coach in the league for some time now. Dirk is old, but they should be able to figure it out

I don't expect much different from this year. I think they'll be a playoff team somewhere in the 6-8 seed range and go out with a whimper in the first round. I don't think they'll be bad but barring a significant move or two they aren't positioned to make deep runs anymore

Don't pay any attention to him. He knows very little about hoops. Dallas almost beat the Spurs a few years ago so Carlisle is a genius to him and he brings him up every chance he gets. If coaching is so important how come rookie coaches have won the last 2 titles. And a 3rd rookie coach knocked out both Pop and Carlisle this season.. His top 2 coaches.

NBA is a players league more than any other. Ie coaching is less important in NBA than any other major team sport.

I'd be ecstatic to get a D'antoni Rockets team in the first round.

Carlisle is a good coach, he's not wrong about that. They just don't have a lot of talent right now. Their ceiling is first round of the playoffs, which is where most people are putting them. I don't think they're sneaking up on anyone

Last time Spurs faced a team lead by mike they got bailed out by a couple players stepping onto the court. Can't count on that happening again.

I don't see how some people in this thread are rating Minny THAT high.

Do these people really think that minny is going to win as many games this coming season than they did the last two combined?

I think Minny makes a solid jump from last year (35-38 wins), but I just don't see them going from 29 wins last year to 44+ this year. They were one of the slower teams last year and they just got a LOT slower with the Thibodeau hire.

Because they have a top 10 coach and a top 10 player.

Good luck with that. He said last year he guaranteed 60 wins and it blew up in. His face. Expect a lot of "something" "almost" "just about" statements from him so that way he can give himself wiggle room when it backfires.
