i know some trumpet especially UNLV's and New Mexico's advantages, but i think they want someone who has been in big time college football in the past... none of those three have ever been in a P5 or BCS conference before

Agreed.

I'm not aware of the recruiting talent there but IMO ECU is one of those programs that can put out a top 15 team every five years if they got into the big 12.

Tulane best fit for the Big 12 and it appears as if Texas is pushing them hard.

This would be really nice for Tulane, and I would like to see it, but this is a bunch of wishful thinking. Texas has advocated publicly and repeatedly for one school--Houston.

That isn't what "appears" to be happening. ADM McRaven tweeted it out.

These are the 12 schools still being considered: Air Force, BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, Colorado State, UConn, Houston, Rice, South Florida, SMU, Temple and Tulane.

They're considering AF for football only.

It's actually a pretty good media and PR strategy. By starting with 20 or so schools it

1. makes the Big 12 look desirable on a national level
2. and more importantly has the media and public comparing the candidate schools against each other instead of comparing the 4 or 5 realistic options against other power 5 schools.

Now whenever they announce BYU and Houston or whoever they pick, we will be thinking "hey that's a pretty good addition compared to all those other schools." And the longer this drags on the more we will get acclimated to the idea of there being schools deserving of a bid. At first we were all just laughing.

BYU is the only school that I want to join the conference. Utah would have been great as well had they not joined the Pac 12.

UNLV and New Mexico...ehh...you're chartering into Mountain West Conference territory now.

so do the new schools have to be approved by all the current members? What if someone like Oklahoma wants out of this crappy conference, knowing the SEC would take them in a heartbeat.

I'd love to see a Louisiana school make it. Wonder why La Tech isn't considered. They'd pick up some good recruits in Louisiana and Texas if they were in a Power 5 conference. Plus the attendance would pick up with schools from Texas and Oklahoma coming in, could expand the stadium.

I also like Tulane, major city, good exposure for the NOLA area. It'd suck if the Big 12 pick some team that don't border current Big 12 states. Already have enough Texas Schools, that's why some of the others left. A Louisiana school makes the most sense in regards to travel, recruits, etc. But we all know the Big 12 lacks common sense since they let major schools like Nebraska, Colorado, aTm and Mizzou leave.

SMU will never be in the Big XII.

They do not have the sports to go into it.

Big 12 is a dumpster fire. Texas and Oklahoma and a collection of nobodys. Conference will crumble in a few more years anyway.
