I think PSU fans would rather get passed over for playoffs anyway. Go west and enjoy the Rose Bowl and not get embarrassed in the playoffs.

two losses were tight.

And they were to two other teams in the top 6.

You got dominated the entire second half. It wasn't some random scramble at the end.

If that happens this whole deal needs to get blown up. How does the champion of the toughest conference in football this year get left out of the playoff?
SEC is still better. Better overall record and tougher overall OOC schedule. Almost all metrics confirm this.

Bama didn't get to play Rutgers and Sparty this year.

So now are we of the mindset that out of conference games and strength of schedule are essentially irrelevant?

I still laugh when I remember that the only rain during that Ohio State/Wisconsin game came when the Buckeyes were getting ready to score, and then JT sailed the ball right over a wide open WR. And it was a downpour, but just for that play. Wild stuff.

It's kind of fun to argue all these details.

However, due to the sheer amount of teams with uneven conferences and schedules, the idea of a completely "fair" and perfect system to choose a champion in college football is a bit of a wild goose chase.

Pursuing it too dogmatically can just as easily screw up more of what makes college football so compelling in the first place.

Making the Rose Bowl is certainly one of those great things about college football.

It's fair enough that Penn St would get to enjoy a Rose Bowl trip as reward for their season since thy did lose two games and fair enough that Ohio State would get a spot in the playoffs since they did beat more good teams than likely anyone this year.

Should a 8-5 conference champion go before a 11-1 non-conference-non-division winning team from the same division?

Neither should go. How's that for your near impossible hypothetical?

What if every other team has two losses?

Did they lose to an 8-5 team like the 11-1 squad? What other hypotheticals would you like to add? What if the the 11-1 squad's coach was in the hospital when they lost and the qb was suspended? In that case I'd take the 11-1 team out of sheer pity of the bad luck.

I said the same thing.

And it's how I know OSU fans at least somewhat agree that PSU winning the head to head AND division AND conference should get them in before OSU gets in.

IMO if bama loses Saturday, they should be left out for not winning the shitty SEC this year

The west was a joke this year

That's true plus bama played an FCS school. That damn near should eliminate them anyway

That's not even close to being "near impossible".

Let's hypothetically look at this year:
Alabama loses to USC but goes 11-1 Div champ
Loses to 8-3 UF

Auburn beats Clemson, only loses to Alabama 11-1.

You're saying, leave 11-1 Auburn home in favor of 4 other teams that may have 2 losses? Clemson wins the ACC at 11-2, they go over Auburn, whom they lost to? 11-2 Penn St with two bad losses? 10-2 OK with two bad losses?

If they are an 11-1 non division winner then they obviously lost to either a 12-0 team or 11-1 team. It's pretty easy to see that.

The Badgers were leading 23-20 with under 8 minutes to go. That doesn't really scream OSU domination to me.

If they lose this game I wouldn't cry too much about them being left out. The SEC sucks arse and Alabama didn't have a tough schedule.

They're way better than everybody else so we won't have to worry about it, though.

I'm okay with this if you honestly feel based on body of work they still aren't one of the 4 best teams when all said and done. Not just because you hate tOSU. I would rather see the 4 best teams in the playoffs regardless. If Ohio State is not one of the best teams...so be it.
