Sorry I'm not crowning them for beating Barn and A&M

But you're crowning FSU for beating who exactly?

I'm not crowning them. They just haven't lost and I for one don't think there victories are any worse or better than similar ranked teams. These pre season rankings have F'd everything up

Yeah - FSU ran through everyone in the ACC and then struggled to beat Auburn.

Still, as defending champs - they just need to keep winning. Winston is still that it factor despite FSU's D having slipped.

If Bama can get the benefit of the doubt every year - why shouldn't FSU?

Florida State could have a resume at the end of the year consisting of zero great wins, but a lot (about 6) of decent wins.

If they go undefeated with 6 decent wins, that might get them the #1 spot. And I wouldn't be upset with it.

1) Florida State
2) Alabama
3) Oregon
4) Mississippi State
5) TCU
6) Baylor
7) Ohio State

That's how I'd rank it right now. However, TCU and Baylor will take care of themselves. Only one of them is getting in. State would have to look good beating Ole Miss to remain in the top 4.

Alabama and Oregon are pretty interchangeable at this point.

Exactly. Auburn was lucky as hell last year. They had no shot going into that game.

Besides the fact that they still almost won it?

Auburn wasn't lucky to be in a close game with FSU. If you played it 10 more Auburn would win 3 or 4 of those games.

I feel like the word "decent" should be in italics.

Out of curiosity, where do you place Arizona State?

UGA game
Alabama game

They were lucky to be there.

You're still talking 40% at best. Honestly, I think Alabama last year wins at minimum 6/10 against FSU.

Clemson
Louisville
Miami
ACC Championship game

Those are all decent wins. Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, etc. you can view them at your own discretion.

My entire point really revolves around this. The sec seems to get much more cred (and maybe rightfully so) than other conferences in rankings. This then artificially inflates sec teams throughout the year.

That's not what I meant.

I'm saying Auburn, as lucky as they were, was still pretty close to beating Florida State last year.

They looked very good in that game. FSU had to get the kick return and the crazy long play on the last drive just to beat them.

ETA: Florida State was great last year. But their greatness was still overstated due in part to their shitty conference.

What benefit of the doubt did Bama get? We were left out of the top 4 this past week.

Oh no doubt, Auburn played with them. I just don't think they were definitively the 2nd best team in the nation. They "lucked into" playing in that game.

I agree. Like I said, they were a 3-loss team masquerading as a 1-loss team.

Yet they still took FSU to the wire.

I think Alabama and Mississippi State are the two best teams in the country. I also think Ole Miss is very good too.

The rest of the SEC isn't anything special, though.

Defenses are down and the QB play isn't as good.

They haven't really beat anybody worth a shite yet were still 5. You beat #1 today and are now in the top 4 again.

This is where you lose me. It is weird though because I can't say they aren't top 2. MSU has been fool's gold all year IMO...and I want them to win (Dak went to my HS ). Alabama doesn't really have a big win either.

But honestly, you can probably make an argument for any 1 loss team to be top 2. You match them up and it is likely a pick em in most cases. Really weird year.

Yep.

shite, I'd go on the record now that I think Alabama and State will play in the national championship game, except the committee would almost for sure pair them against each other to avoid it.

I wonder if the Noles will start getting shite for barely beating a Kansas-level Oklahoma State team at the beginning of the year.

Or the fact that FSU had to scrape by with an overtime win against an overrated Clemson team, or how they had to come from behind and scrape by with a win against a horrible NC State team, or how they had to rely on a penalty after struggling the whole game to win against Notre Dame (who hasn't won a game since), or how about scraping by with a come from behind win against a bad unranked Miami team?

I have the same 4, just a different order. I would put Bama first, FSU second, and Oregon third.

I'm not saying they should be ranked there.

This is eye test, which the committee shouldn't care about.

State and Alabama's defensive lines are the two best in the country. They both have good O-lines, running backs and good quarterbacks. They are built very well.

That is what I mean. If I had to take 2 teams that could beat any other team in the country more times than not, it's those two.
