of an organization not having any other option at QB going into a season other than him is just scary. Then drafting another QB isn't weird at all, it was a must.

This x10000.

The Mett backers do not want to consider what would happen if he does in fact miss some games again this year. Charlie Whitehurst is a laughable backup, even more laughable as a starter. Titans had to grab a QB this draft, one that has a legitimate shot to contribute this year. Mariota wasn't my first choice but I don't mind the pick. I've watched every Titans game for years and am well aware of how bad the roster is around him.

So how do you have a competition between the two? They're completely different. Mariota will struggle in a pro style offense. Mett obviously can't run a spread option team. Titans are handing the starting job to Mariota according to Whisenhunt, so are they completely changing their offense? Yet they see Mett as a backup who will be forced to play at some point during the season because Mariota will get hurt. So do they completely change their offense again when that happens?

Either Mariota will learn or not learn a pro style offense as opposed to those gay sideline flash cards, I still say Mariota struggles and they split the starts this year.

Still - Amari Cooper is going to be awesome and would immediately be the best WR on the team, but this has Joey Harrington 2.0 written all over it.

Dear God. Literally the only thing him and Mariota have in common is that they went to Oregon.

They're decades apart. How old was Mariota when Harrington was drafted? How is Harrington's failure relevant to Mariota as an NFL QB?

Mariota might end up being a failure but it will only be because of what Mariota does. Nothing else will determine that, especially not what other players have done in the past. Quit taking the easy route and justifying your beliefs by ghosts of former busts.

ETA: Mariota was in the third grade when Joey Harrington was drafted. But yea, Harrington 2.0 for sure.

Mariota can actually move around in the pocket and give you a prayer at avoiding a sack. Mett can't. Of course Mariota has more upside.

I love the "Manziel 2.0" also.

Because Mariota is a small, smug gunslinger right?

Best move would be titans trading mett to a team with an O-line that won't get him killed.

They should have traded the #2 pick to draft offensive linemen IMO.

Yes. He has way more upside. That's why one went 2nd overall and the other 6th round.

Yea, that had nothing to do with Mettenberger walking around in a cast.

It's probably going to be quite hard for Mariota to go 0-6 as a starting QB with 7 INTs and 4 fumbles lost.

Huge upgrade at QB for the Titans.

physically, I'd take mettenberger every day of the week. The problem is, he's a fricking Neanderthal with an iq in the tardo range

what in the world? where does this come from? He was a rookie QB thrown into the fire and did ok. Not many 6th round pick QB's in their rookie year are starting...

From the couple of games I saw, he looked ok. Looked comfortable in the pocket. Kept his eyes downfield when the pocket started collapsing. Looked decent enough for a rookie QB on a shitty team with no legit weapons. I would have liked to see the Titans give him more time.

I'm a halfass LSU fan but objective when it comes to the NFL.

Mett needs to go to AZ with Palmer and Arians

so is mariota going to run a spread offense or a pro style offense?

the titans front office doesn't have a plan it seems like... unless they picked up mariota to trade to philly for picks/players.

I'm obviously a huge Mett fan, but the fact is he didn't lead his team to any wins
I like Mett too, but I think we tend to focus on his big arm, occasional beautiful throws, and overlook the fact that he didn't exactly have a strong track record of winning big games at LSU. He looked okay in the few games he played last year, but I didn't see anything to make me think he's going to be anything other than a serviceable pro. But unlike others on here, I'm no NFL scout.
