Die-hard Braves fan here. Lived in LA all my life. The Braves were the "South's Team". I Grew up worshipping Andrew Jones, Chipper Jones,Smoltz, etc. The Braves are definitely a top 5 favorite mlb team in LA.

I am gonna get hit hard for this, but... Atlanta did not become bigtime on the national scene until the 80's across America..... it has grown into A major city since then. Sports wise and in other things.... Cities like NY, LA, Chicago, Houston, Philly, Dallas were all more popular and vibrant than Atlanta was up to that point.... and as it goes, Atlanta sports fans ARE late to the party..... the town SUCKS as far as a dominant fan base... they got spoiled on the Braves, and had trouble selling out a playoff game for the braves... Complacent is a great word for Atlanta people.....
But I hope they win the SB... NOT for the fans, but for the players that deserve it.

But you think they'll lose to Green Bay, right?

This isn't that controversial of an opinion, other than cities like Dallas and Houston being closer to Atlanta than they are NY or LA. The Cowboys are the exception, of course, but the Texas cities have all come on strong in recent decades and have relatively short histories of major influence otherwise.

10$ for Falcons? I'm guessing you haven't gone in the last 10 years or park 3 miles away from the stadium. No where within a mile and a half of the stadium is under 30$. I have looped around hundreds of times looking. I don't believe it for one second.

$20 for Falcons, $10 for most other events, $5 for Braves but yes I haven't been to a Falcons game in probably 2-3 years.

Personally, I kind of like the fact that Atlanta is viewed as a place with people from out of state that have their own fav. teams.
This is absolutely the main reason, and I was one of those for the 5 years I lived there. I'd attend Braves and Hawks games for fun but I really couldn't have cared less how they did. Actually, the only Hawks games I went to was to watch my team, the Grizzlies
Additionally, the GA natives are college fans first, which also doesn't help

I never got the hate for MARTA. I've always used it to go through Atlanta be it a game, concert, or the airport. Much better then dealing with that hell hole called the 285

They have Marta and John Lewis.
What else could they possibly need ?

To some of our idiot locals, mass transit = black people flooding the suburbs. Add in politicians in Cobb/Gwinnett/Clayton over the last 50 years using racist anti-MARTA sentiment for political gain, and here we are.

My issue with MARTA is that they don't seem to plan for big events.
My Georgia Tech graduation was at the Georgia Dome in 2008 and we sat at the Five Points station after trasnferring off of the South train for 30 minutes waiting for a train to take us one station west. We finally walked to the Dome and got there as everyone was getting ready to walk in.
The Falcons game on Saturday night was a cluster leaving the stadium. They should have had trains ready to go one after the other to get people out of there, but they don't. Other big cities that I've been to have extra trains ready to go for the end of events/games.
I also still can't believe they never tried to incorporate a line to drop you off at Turner Field. The process of getting off at Underground Atlanta and then walking to buses was always a hassle.

It would help get them as a secondary team for people that come out of the nfc south foot print.

It would've been too expensive, espeically if it was only a one-stop branch not heavily-used year-round. However, back when MARTA was first being planned in the late-60s/early-70s, there was a proposed line (the Southeast Branch) from Five Points to the old Carver Homes development in SE Atlanta that would've included a station at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium:
However, the line was killed due to federal funds drying up in the early-80s and MARTA having to prioritize completing the South Line to Hartsfield Airport. It didn't help that the Southeast Branch would've had much lower year-round ridership than the South Line.

They moved the shuttle to West End back in 2015, which was a huge improvement.

best part about cobb is not having marta, and the different short cuts to get places
Posted on 1/18/17 at 9:45 am to Paul Allen
No, only Sherman could that.

Houston has been a major city since the 60's because of NASA... Dallas has been there as well because of oil.
