I'm disputing that your average MSB poster could hold their own in the women's world cup.

We're not talking about playing a field position. We're just talking about being a keeper. You don't need to be able to make a pinpoint 40 yard pass. Just get in the way of a shot or come out and grab a cross.

What do you mean by this?

How much did you score on them and how much did they score on you?

Ali vs Alzado.

Watch it, and let me know.

Vaguely remember reading that. Reason I ask is that I had a debate with a few friends a while back on whether or not a Mullens-lead Jesuit team could beat the USWNT. We just used that as a barometer because they are a solid program regionally with an elite domestic prospect. There's obviously a huge jump between a solid HS program and the U-17 national teams but still.

Except that a goalie that can hold their own against the competition does a hell of a lot more than those two things.

Did you see some of the keepers in this tournament? If you could do those to things, you would be holding your own in comparison to your competition.

Hell, I saw a few keepers that turned their head away from the ball anytime they had to jump up against an opposing player.

I would take the Jesuit team for sure. That's basically what I am saying. You need a high school team that is probably about that good to compete. Plenty of club teams are much better than high school teams and wouldn't have any trouble at all.

As a keeper in HS, the average athlete on the MSB would definitely not hold up to the WMN Teams in the tourney. While some on here may overshadow them athletically, goal keeping has a lot to do with mechanics, positioning, etc that only comes with years of experience. You have to make split second decisions and commit to that decision every time. Very tough job...

Being a keeper is really fricking hard. Plenty of top high school keepers could hold their own, but if you aren't familiar with it, you will have no chance. Routine saves are tough. You see it when goalies get carded when teams are out of substitutions and a field player has to play.

I like to think I was a decent goalie in high school. Also my intramural team won the championship and I like to think I played a big role in that.

So all that being said, frick no I would not stand a chance at all

They'd score at will on you, then emasculate you with their incessant nagging.

I'm 6'1, played basketball through high school so I can jump and react reasonably well. If you have me a 2-3 week training camp to get comfortable tracking the ball and learning the defense I have no doubt I could do it. Solo looks like a gladiator out there, and someone just said she's 5'9.

I think goalie is the easiest position though (excluding the PK argument which was hysterical). I workout a lot but NO WAY could I keep up with those girls fitness wise. I'm always stunned how fit soccer players are.

I have little doubt I could be above average as a goalie though.

I think we're placing a bit too much on the athleticism side of playing goalie and not enough on the years and years of experience that assists with goalies knowing where to be at all times and the instincts as well.

I interned at UF Amin the strength and conditioning department. I worked with women's soccer more than any other sport given the timing.

Sometimes I'd have to play pickup as we'd have 3 mini games at once going. These girls were fricking filthy. I got my arse handed to me in the regular.

True. I'd be clueless about any tactics.

I don't think you could hold your own against the U-15 US Women's Team.

Nope. I'm short never played between the pipes.

I could probably score a PK. I was quite good at them back in the day.

As a midfielder, absolutely not. I might do alright as a forward. I'd be solid in defence, or as a defensive mid.

Well you got the attention you wanted for one of the most ignorant series of posts I've ever seen. Congrats on being seen as the 1st class attention whore and loser. You win ,we all know who you are now. Apparently you have equally dumb friends in this thread. You guys accomplished so much.

Yea I'm having a hard time understanding how people who claim to have played soccer for much of their lives think that being a superior athlete with little to no experience means you could do well as a keeper against the best women in the world.
