Listening to MLB radio this morning and the hosts mentioned they still think Astros land Quintana. They mentioned sending Martes & Tucker, but didn't say anything about Musgrove. Perhaps they think Musgrove is the negotiating piece that the Stros are trying to leave out of a package? Not sure about that because I only caught the end of the segment.

I'd be ok with sending Martes & Tucker, honestly. And Jabroni or Fiers if the WSox would take one of them instead of Musgrove.

Quintana is a good pitcher but is he that ace you dump everyone for? I would've been fine sending all that for sale but Quintana not so sure.

Guy has a proven record to at the very least be a solid 2.

We HOPE that Martes becomes that. We KNOW Quintana has been that.

I don't consider trading Martes & Tucker dumping "everyone" considering the current build of the Astros roster. So yes, I'd do it. Statistically, Quintana is a borderline top 10 SP and is only 27 years old. Getting him gives us a starting rotation of him, Dallas, LMJ, and Musgrove for the foreseeable future - all 28 years old or younger. Back end rotation starters are fairly easy to come by, so I am not overly concerned about that 5th spot. At worst, Paulino is still a top 100 prospect in our system and has #2 upside according to most scouting reports (gotta remember he has less than 150ish total professional innings pitched and has MLB service already despite the inexperience - kid can throw). Feliz was once seen as having #2 upside if he could develop that third pitch. Devenski has shown potential and may be given a chance to land in the rotation as soon as this season. Thats three possible long term options for the 5th spot already in our system, not to mention signing a cheaper guy to fill the 5th spot like we have for a few years in a row if the internal guys dont work out. So it isn't like trading Martes kills our entire future MLB rotation when we are really just talking about the final 5th spot if he is traded for a proven SP.

Then Tucker: If Springer is a part of our future, then he and Riddick will make up 2/3rds of our staring OF for the next 3-5 years (and both are sub 30 years old). Much like the 5th rotation spot, I dont think finding a LF to play along side them will be incredibly difficult. We already have flexibility there on our current roster with the thought that Yuli can handle it if we were to bring in another 1st baseman. Yuli also started 20-plus games at 3b for us last season, so at worst he can go back to 3rd and Bregman can man LF if we need to shuffle things (not suggesting that - just showing that we do have flexibility to find guys to play LF already). So it isnt like we dont have short term options already and, like a 5th starter, I dont think signing a Reddick like player to play LF within the next year or so will be difficult to do if we chose to go that route in free agency one offseason soon. Hell we went hard after Cespedes this offseason. If he signed and the intention is to keep Springer, then Tucker would have been as good as gone anyways in a trade, imo.

Age is on our side with the current build of our roster, so don't think we are screwed in 3+ years if we trade our top two prospects for a much needed piece to help us NOW. A large portion of our roster will still be sub 30 by then.

Edit: And we are talking prospects. Last season no one here wanted to include AJ Reed in any trade, even when everyone was discussing a hypothetical trade to the Braves for Freddie Freeman. This offseason, no one here would flinch if he were involved in trade for a proven player in return. Same perceived drop-off can happen to any other prospect currently in our system.

I think we're living in a fantasy land where we can get Q here for McHugh and 1 top prospect and 1 or 2 lower prospects. TT said it perfectly. The moves we've made are to win now. It doesn't make sense for us to gamble and hope Martes is the real deal. We've gotten a first hand look at prospects not panning out the last 5-10 years (I know we all remember the first base carousel after Bags and Berkman were gone).

We need a SP more than these teams need to trade their cost controlled TOR arms.

What would yall batting order and Lineup look like? BTW this isn't what do you think it will look like it's what you would do.

2nd-tuve
3rd-breg
Lf-cb
Ss-cc
Cf-springer
Dh-gattis
Rf-jr
C-McCain
1st-the cube

It's crazy hard to make a lineup witg this team. Such a deep team.

I think you gotta get altuve some ab with men on base and batting leadoff he wont get that. We could springer back up there but then with probably righty/lefty lineups you'd have correa bat 5th and that wouldnt be good.

bregman
altuve
beltran
correa
springer
gattis
reddick
mccann
gurriel/aj reed

Knowing that we will probably have about 150 different lineups throughout the year, this is my ideal lineup.

vs. RHP
Springer CF
Reddick RF
Altuve 2B
Correa SS
Beltran DH
Bregman 3B
McCann C
Yuli 1B
Aoki LF

Now Gattis could be the DH and Beltran LF also

vs. LHP
Springer
Bregman
Altuve
Correa
Beltran DH/LF
Gattis C
Yuli 1B
And I'm not sure who would fill the other OF or DH spots

Craig Biggio turned 50 today. He's been retired for going on a decade.

Gattis doesn't have huge career splits but a bit better vs LHP, and much better last year.

Vs RHP
'16 230/307/488 111wrc+
Career 241/298/478 111wrc+
Vs LHP
'16 288/341/545 133wrc+
Career 271/311/500 116wrc+

My guess is that Gattis and McCann have a near straight L/R platoon. But if he's able to prove his 2nd half of '16 (288/358/594) represents a real step forward, then he needs to be in the lineup everyday. I'm just sure there is anything that points to a true change.

I don't think so. But it seems the post-Winter Meetings lull is upon us. There's no rush.

Springer has the highest career OBP of the core guys in our lineup too I'm pretty sure
