Beltran is strictly a DH at this point. He's also going to be 40. I think the chances of him signing here are very slim. I would rather seek out a younger vet who we can banknotes 3 to 4 years of production from.

Regardless of what gets done or how it gets done this offense needs a major overhaul

I mention Beltran as another option because we may not be able to get any of the younger options. Thin market means lots of competition.

Yep, we've got to remember that there will be a lot of other teams going after the same guys. We will have to overpay for whoever we do get.

True, but we cannot assume our big money offers will even win the day. Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs, etc. will throw around the cash, for starters. Just as long as we get somebody legit who can bat in the middle of the lineup, it's all good.

Duffey
ER last 5 games 4-6-5-5-5
W-6 L-8 ERA 6.21

Duffey, a righty, allowed two runs on six hits and a walk in 6 2/3 innings in a no decision last season in Houston in his only career start against his hometown team.

The Yanks could be pretty quiet with the moves they've made to free up at bats for youngsters, then break out the check book for the big classes in years to come. The Cubs just don't have space in their lineup The Dodgers and Red Sox will be interesting to follow though

Cespedes would be great because he can play rf and springer cf.

He will cost a ton and I think NY resigns him or the dodgers.

I don't think the Red Sox will be signing any OF's. They've already got Bradley, Betts, and now Benintendi.

I think Cespedes has pitched a fit recently about just wanting to play left field. But if we got him, that would make the Gammons claim that Bregman will end up in center field more plausible.

He likes to golf every day, maybe Luhnow can convince Houston CC, tWoodlands CC, etc to offer free golf to sweeten the deal

Bregman will find his way to the green home eventually

I'm a firm believer that bregman should play 3b. He doesn't have the range or arm for cf.

We could sign encarnacion for 1b. Play gurriel at DH and bregman at 3b.

What is interesting is if we try to resign luis. If that happens then Bregman to the OF makes sense....LF only

Same

And I don't see why Gurriel couldn't play left. He's a skinny, in-shape guy.

I don't want then to give a multi-year deal to Valbuena. We need to do better.

They won't re-sign Valbuena. And Luhnow won't want to get burned for a $17MM commitment like he did this year so I doubt we extend him a QO.
