Would be nice to win a series. We've lost 3 series in a row since the Angels beat down.
Posted on 8/8/16 at 9:05 am to texastiger38
Well at least we're playing the worst team AL, so the odds are in our favor to win a series.

Today is a new day. Win.

Twins have been playing well as of late

Yeah I saw a stat that they had scored the most runs in the majors in the last month or something.
Max Kepler is a damned beast.
Some stats on Springer since the ASB, to confirm the struggling:
.213/.300/.371 with a 79 wRC+ 10% BB 26% K
Also some season stats, to reinforce what we've said all along about him needed to think up the middle/oppo
2015: LD% - 24.5% Pull% 34.2 Middle% 38.7 Oppo% 27.1
2016: LD% - 17.4% Pull% 40.4 Middle% 37.6 Oppo% 22.0

Springer struggling and Valbuena getting hurt has driven this lineup into the ground. We absolutely need to make at least one big signing or move for a bat. Gurriel could theoretically replace Valbuena's production from this year. But you still need to upgrade another spot to really improve the lineup. Bregman is kind of the wildcard going into next year, hopefully he continues to settle in

They need at least 2 offseason signings or off season trades on top of gurriel plus add a legit TOR starter to truly compete next year.
I want Ramos the C and encarnation plus another OF...we could pull off a trade for legit OF help

We need to get an Ace. I'd love to get an Outfielder like Desmond but if he is too much $ EE is a great bat for MMP

It just isn't that easy to get an ace via trade. What we do on the rotation to me is dependent on what the situation with McCullers is. If he's fine and ready to go at the start of next year I am fine with signing a cheaper vet and rolling with McCullers/Musgrove/DK/Cheaper vet like Volquez and having Jabroni and Fiers battle it out for the last spot if one doesn't get dealt. Our pitching has been fine overall this year. I am a huge believer in Musgrove too. Adding a bullpen arm with so many good ones available in FA might be better.

We have good pitching with more young help on the way. All available resources this offseason should be used to acquire bats.

Yeah the way Martes is pitching he could be up mid year next season
Posted on 8/8/16 at 10:01 am to ShaneTheLegLechler
Martes is still only 20. Hopefully we don't need him in 17 but I agree at his current trajectory he could be a mid season option next year.
Even if LMJ doesn't have surgery and he starts next season I can't put too much trust in him to hold up. Shoulder issues cost him the first part of the season then the elbow issues. That torque he puts on the elbow with as many curves as he throws is worrisome. Hes never thrown much over a 100 -125 innings right?

I don't really want to see Fister walk. He's been very reliable and is a good 4/5 starter.
Posted on 8/8/16 at 10:02 am to Tiger Ryno
He threw 157 total last year between AA and MLB
Posted on 8/8/16 at 10:03 am to MegaTiger3
He'll be more expensive next year and a desperate team will give him a 3 year deal.
Posted on 8/8/16 at 10:09 am to Tiger Ryno
Yeah I don't know if Fister can replicate what he's done this year. His peripherals suggest he's been pretty lucky this year. It's turned out to be a great deal though. The starting pitching market in FA this year is absolutely atrocious
Posted on 8/8/16 at 10:11 am to texastiger38
Ok. 157 last year is the high point for him and now a year later he can't start or finish the year. That's troubling to me. I love LMJ and want him to overcome these issues because he is going to be a true #1. But the arm issues and the torque from his delivery are troubling long term.
Posted on 8/8/16 at 10:14 am to Tiger Ryno
I agree with you on that. We can't do nothing as far as the rotation goes and I don't think we will, there needs to be some insurance with Fister likely gone. It's a question to me of trading a bunch of prospects for a legit starter or going after someone cheaper similar to Fister this past offseason (as far as career arc goes). I do expect Keuchel to be better next year, more of a mid to high 3's ERA type

Every pitcher is an injury risk because pitching is such an unnatural motion. I think that's why Luhnow is hesitant to trade any more of it away. Keuchel seems to have his game back under control, so that's promising. If Jabroni is our worst starter next year, we're in good shape. There just isn't much out there as far as free agency or realistic trades to add an ace.
