Unfortunately I think they're waiting for rosters to expand to add White. How do playoff rosters work? I thought guys added when rosters expand couldn't be on the playoff roster but I might be completely wrong. It's been a while since we've had to worry about stuff like that

The problem with White is he's not on the 40 man. So they would have to DFA someone or put someone on the 60 day DL to make room for him.
ETA: Also, a player can be on the playoff Roster if they are on the 25 man active roster or the DL on Aug 31. The only way someone else can be added is if a guy already on the playoff roster goes on the DL during the playoffs. At least that is my understanding of it.

They might not want to DFA someone until he can play in the big leagues, and they don't want to put Carter on waivers (frustrating). I dunno. Springer will have to take someone's spot from this 25 man though for a theoretical playoff roster. I feel like Jake adds 10x more as a bench player than Carter

Agree, my guess is with as much as Gattis is DH'ing, they want Carter as the RH power bat on the bench. Tucker/Rasmus covers that for Lefties, Marwin is the Utility guy, and Jake is the defensive specialist.

Easily. If nothing else he is a late inning defensive substitute and pinch runner. Both are very important things to have in a playoff series.

Carter is a late inning strikeout replacement for when you don't want to hit into a double play.....that's important.

At least for Sept. 1, they need to add White to give him a chance to help. At the very least.
As for the 40-man roster, Kevin Chapman may be a lefty but he is TERRIBLE. Drop him.

This doesn't really have anything to do with today but I was day dreaming about how Springer, McCullers, and Velasquez would be on a potential playoff roster. Who the heck would be replaced? Obviously everyone is hoping Springer for Carter. But what about the 2 pitchers? Perez would likely stay because of lefty. Can Fiers be sent down? Fields...?
I guess in a playoff situation Feldman would be coming out of the pen? (DK, SK, LMJ, CM as our rotation?)

Honestly, would we keep 5 outfielders when springer comes back. Rasmus, Springer, Gomez, Tucker and Jake? I think one of them won't be on the playoff roster.
Realistically I don't see Vince in the playoff picture. And either Jake or Tucker won't be there baring injury.

Yeah we're kinda safe in that regard in that we'll have 6 outfielders eligible for postseason.

And we don't have to worry about sending anybody down until then due to September roster expansion.
The main issue is that we've got to get McCullers up before August 31st at midnight so he can be eligible. Which means one outfielder likely goes down to make room for LMJ, but then can come right back up due to roster expansion.
I think VV stays down and the colder bat between Marisnick and Tucker goes down before the postseason.
