In the immortal words of Tiger Ryno, this shite isn't winnable. And he is actually right this time. The team DGAF, I DGAF, most of y'all really DGAF.

And when I start these threads, they actually lose anyway.

New staff ace and Houston socialite Zach Greinke takes the hill vs. Trevor Cahill.

The scouting report on Cahill:

quote:

Cahill will make his Giants debut and pitch in place of the injured Jeff Samardzija. Cahill missed the first quarter of the year with a fingernail injury that he suffered while repairing his bike.

Correa saw this and was like

His projected line tonight against the vaunted Astros offense: 6 IP, 2 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 8 K.

Astros baseball: Come for the bad base running and at bats, stay for the bullpen implosion.

This is me after literally every Astros game win or lose.

quote:

“I think this is a mentally tough team, and we’re going to continue to show up and work hard every single day and get better and play better baseball,” said Astros third baseman Alex Bregman, who homered and walked three times. “We’re holding up fine. We’re going to continue to compete and grind.”

You ain't lying to anyone Bregman. Y'all are soft as baby shite and don't even really want to be out there.

In related news the Astros are currently [OUT OF] IN the playoffs.

Only by .5 games, though.

So what you are saying is, don't let them get hot?

I’ve tried to get into the season but it’s been tough. The lack of enthusiasm from the players, no fans, bad game times.

bad game times.

This has been the worst for me, but I'm Eastern... as I'm sure you all know because I've ranted about it... these 9:10 local start times suck. I went to sleep last night up 4-2.

Tonight I should be able to catch most of the game.

Man I'm with you on this. The lack of energy the team is showing along with not having crowds to pump them up is making it hard to watch.

This 100% percent for me. I always have another game on my iPad while I watch the Astros and watch multiple games on the weekends waiting for Astros starts or after they are done and they easily have some of the worst body language. I get why bad teams would have bad body language because it's probably not as fun only going from hotel to ball park to get your brains bashed in, but there is no excuse for this roster of position players to be moping around and low energy.

DAT 8/12 Astros (Greinke) vs. Giants (Cahill). 6:00 CDT

So tonight it's Greinke who gives a fantastic pitching start only to lose it in extra innings because we have no bullpen. Glad to know what to expect.

Hi guys. How’s it been going in the DAT? It’s been hard for me to watch any games. I’ve recently cut the cord and having Cy Sneed on the roster inhibits my need to break out my laptop and watch.

Only took him 6 years.

Lots of snark, witticisms, and jocular banter in this OP, mate. Well done

I think the Astros would still lose in 10 innings if they gave them the bases loaded and an extra out to play with. Either a quadruple play or 4 Ks in a row.

@Chandler_Rome

Baseball America released its midseason farm system rankings today. The Astros are 29th.

No 1st or 2nd round picks for a 2nd year in 21. Springer, Brantley, Reddick and Yuli are free agents after the season. JV, Grienke and Correa after 2021. If this shite keeps up, its gonna be tempting to tear it down and reinfuse the farm with talent.

On the other hand, I'm sure there's also the thought of bringing back one of Springer or Brantley, possibly Yuli and hope to get JV healthy and give it one last shot with this group in 2021. But its clear they're going nowhere fast this season.

Springer

Would love to see a large extension or new contract... but I would bet against it happening.

quote:

Brantley

50/50... his two healthy (so far) seasons in Houston have definitely raised his stock, but he'll be going into his age 34 season. I could see a 4-5 year deal from the Astros.

quote:

Reddick

Bye, Felicia.

quote:

Yuli

I see him back on a 2-3 year deal.

quote:

JV

Too much up in the air to say... I could see him giving it another year or two, but it might be as a hired gun for a team with a better 2022 outlook.

quote:

Grienke

Very little chance he's an Astro after his contract is up. Wouldn't be surprised if he retires, or takes a 1-2 year deal elsewhere.

quote:

Correa

Going to go after the big $$$ and it won't be in Houston, I'd bet.

The five worst bullpens in MLB this season by WPA, in case you were wondering: 1. Astros (-2.65) 2. Phillies (-2.62) 3. Pirates (-2.58) 4. Angels (-1.89) 5. Reds (-1.64)

WPA = Win Probability Added. Our bullpen has a negative win Probability added. according to fan graphs, the -2.65 sits between poor and awful.

Dusty Baker’s malfeasance has sapped my interest. He has zero feel for this team. And this team has zero feels for the game right now.

It’s been fun to watch Blake Taylor (before last week) and Andre Scrubb. And Javier before the Oakland start. But I’m tired of watching Altuve flail in the dirt, Bregman pop balls up and Kyle Tucker do anything.

Throw in no fans and a season that started in July and I pick my spots to watch this team right now.
