Ok it sucks, but it's done and we have to look for a bright spot.
Let's be real, who was Phillips going to play over? Tucker? Springer? Gomez? Gomez is a 2 time all star and will hopefully play better since he has something to play for. We have him all next year as well.

Ok I'm good... Hurts to give up a top prospect like Phillips, but this is the price to pay for a guy like Gomez.
The trading of Phillips and Santana show that there is a lot of faith in the young group of out fielders we have out on the farm.

Losing Phillips stings but, honestly, we can only hope that Phillips would turn into the player that Gomez has been the last few years. He are getting legit lineup help back, which is what everyone wanted.
I'm not concerned with losing the other prospects. Martes and maybe even Musgrove are now higher ranked pitching prospects than what we gave up (and we also didn't give up VV). And who knows what will become of Santana.
We are also about to be at a log jam of rule 5 eligible players, so we needed to make trades giving up numerous prospects to clear up some room.

Hopefully this trade doesn't have anything to do with thoughts that Springer may not be back this season.

Gomez was hurt earlier in the season, missed 28 games. He's been hot in July and his numbers are in line with those of this past few season.
Fiers has been good in July, too, similar to the guy he was last season. 5 starts (31 IP, going deep into games) w a 3.19 ERA and a k/9 of 8. WHIP around 1
