I'm not saying Hinch is a pussy(yet), but when a player has to do it on his own, verbally, then maybe.

Astros trade rumors from the weekend. The first being the most recent down to the oldest.

quote:

•The Astros do want to add a bat, but the team’s search for starting pitcher is a significantly greater priority, sources tell Rosenthal.

quote:

The Astros also have interest in Upton, Morosi tweets. The Astros are on their way to a 51-43 record as they lead the Rangers by a wide margin.

quote:

•As we now know, the Astros are open to adding a bat at the trade deadline. One star they’ve scouted is Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez. Houston prefers a right-handed hitter, but may target lefty swinging Gerardo Parra due to a lower acquisition price. The Astros are open to trade Jon Singleton.

quote:

The Astros and Padres have discussed starting pitching, reports Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune. It’s believed that Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross were the subjects of the talks. Lin characterizes the conversations as “preliminary.” He believes the Astros are performing due diligence in case their pursuit of Johnny Cueto goes awry.

Gomez would be really interesting. Hes a dynamic talent with speed and power, and would probably cost a decent amount prospect wise.

He's had some interesting moments on the field in the past character wise but it really isn't anything that bad. I think our clubhouse is strong enough that it wouldn't be an issue.

Gomez has one more year of control after this season correct? Gotta think a trade for him would be pricy and hurt our ability to get a pitcher

Yeah he has one more year of control. It all depends on where they think they can get the most value in improving the roster. Because there are multiple spots where upgrades would be beneficial they're exploring every scenario. Thinking about Gomez and Springer in the same OF is fun though

I'm guessing they prefer a cheaper OF rental like Upton because of the near future four of Springer, Phillips, Tucker and Marisnick. Or maybe the King.

Has anyone mentioned the mets as a trade partner? Niese and syndergrad would be decent pickups.

I think Gerardo Parra would be a quality addition. Left handed outfielder, former gold glove winner (although I've read his defense has dropped off a bit)

Season stats:

.313/.348/.500 23 doubles, 2 triples, 9HR 30RBI 6 SB 16BB 52SO

He got off to a rough start to the season, hitting just .222 in April followed by .312 in May, .308 in June and .420 in July. So since April he's posted a line of:

.333/.373/.530 17 doubles 1 triple, 9HR 27RBI 15BB 37SO

He's hit .315 vs RHP and .298 vs LHP. He's a more productive hitter on the road than he is at home.

That's a long time to hang on.

Springer is a month away.

Personally, I'd rather roll the dice with Carter and upgrade Jason Castro.

I realize we suck at both spots, but we should be smart about who we go after. If there's a better hitter at C than 1B, then we should get the catcher.

I'm starting to wish they just let Hank be the full time catcher and then upgrade first.

I honestly don't want to add a bat.

That's pretty risky. Doesn't matter how good the pitching is if you can't score runs. Our offense has tailed off lately while the Angels have been hotter than anyone. You're playing with fire just trying to limp along until we get those 2 back. Springer is a month or so off and Lowrie may not be the same hitter coming off a hand injury and a long DL stint. Same thing with Springer. Coming off a broken hand, he may not be the same.
