Won't be cheap with the Sox still marginally in the race and getting a comp pick if they keep him.
Kazmir would likely be cheaper, as the As have no hope and Beane seems willing to take several 2nd and 3rd tier prospects (at least based on his trade of Samardzija and Donaldson).
Is Kazmir reliable? Triceps tightness this week (which always raises eyebrows about the shoulder). An injury history that's troubling. Sure we can get him cheaper, but we need a sure thing No. 2 starter. Not a gamble.

Good questions.
Personally, I think Samardzija is better than Kazmir (and certainly healthier), but Kazmir is having the better statistical year.

Guys messin with Julia right before gametime. It's been a tough stretch but this clubhouse seems to be loose and having fun.

If they do, they'll lose all fan momentum gained this year. It will cost ticket sales until next season when they win something.

We may have too many holes to fill to risk giving up too many of our young players.
I think they'll make a move for a starting pitcher though. None of it matters if we don't get out of the hitting slump we've been in.

I don't think we have that many holes. But the glaring one is first base. Lowrie will help at 3B and maybe a lot at 1B, too.
Lefty reliever? Sure.
No. 2 starter. Yeah, more so for a playoff series than actually winning games now. We're getting plenty of quality starts but that means little with a slumping offense.

If we could string together a few simple line drive hits, I might faint.

We can get Ardolis Champman with Cueto.

If the options are either stand Pat or overpay on a trade, I'll take stand Pat at this trade deadline every single time. Unfortunately any details of failed negotiations may not be released to the public, so it'll lead to fans bitching about standing pat when they don't know the entire situation. But I guarantee the will be contacting teams about trades at this deadline regardless if they go through or not.

Disagree. This upcoming off season means more than this upcoming trade deadline. Sure it will piss people off (see my above statement), but the turnaround this season plus any aquistions next off season to build upon it will keep the excitement level extremely high.

Prospects we need to deal soon for value
Singleton -- Why? Because Reed, Davis and Nottingham are in the system and not all that far away. Let someone else take the chance on Jon.
Obie -- We don't want to keep him. I don't think they like his mental makeup, but he has legit value as a BOR lefty starter in the league. We have plenty of pitching depth that can fill out a rotation.
Kemp - I love the King. But he is best as a 2B where Tuve is entrenched. He can play LF or CF as a leadoff type, but I think Phillips is penciled in for that role sooner than later.
That's a list to start, and I feel those are the most obvious three who may have max value while not really being the preferred prospects in their best roles by the organization.

The fans you are trying to bring in as new ones and jilted ones to come back will not take kindly to an inactive trade deadline followed by a collapse this season.
Can you eventually get them back? Of course, the future is bright. They will come when the winning rolls on. Am I saying overpay for rentals? Nope. But we are the diehards. The ones who aren't remember all the shite years and they will delay their return.
