5 things the Astros need to straighten out

Heres some highlights:

quote:

The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner hasn't won since April 15, going 0-5 with a 7.78 ERA in his past seven starts.
quote:

Spark the bottom of the lineup. Houston hasn't gotten much production from third base, first base, catcher or center field. There's help in the Minors, with top prospects A.J. Reed (first base, Triple-A) and Alex Bregman (third base/shortstop, Double-A), but they were supposed to be the future, not the present.
quote:

If there's anything this year's team needs, it's a good hot streak. They've yet to win as many as three games in a row, which means there has been no momentum. After the Astros won a series against the White Sox on the road, they were swept at home by the Rangers. Until Houston can find a way to reel off six, seven wins in a row, getting into the race will be difficult.
quote:

Get Gomez Going. The outfielder is scheduled to start a Minor League rehab game on Tuesday. He was hitting .182 with no homers, five RBIs and 46 strikeouts in 34 games, but maybe a refreshed Gomez can provide a spark.

#NeverGomez

eta: ....stating the obvious in that article, nothing we dont know already. Lets hope Fister can keep giving some solid innings so we can dangle him for some position players

I wonder what it feels like to win 3 games in a row.

Chris Tillman in 2016

W L ERA G IP SO WHIP
6 1 2.61 9 51.2 53 1.16

4.50 ERA on the road
Right hand hitters hitting at .202 versus Left handers at .222
Hasnt struck out more than 9 in a game this season, so im predicting itll be a low amount tonight for the Astros.... right around 12-13

I believe hinch had something to say about there series vs Texas and they will come out and play with some fire this series.

We have an easy stretch coming up in the next 30 days that include series with: Arizona, Oakland, Tampa Bay, and Cincinnati.

Time to get this thing rollin I BELIEVE!!

I stayed with Uverse just to watch them this year when there were much better deals to be had. Thanks Astros!

Just turned on the SEC Tournament. Let's tank for Mizzou's Tanner Houck.

It's over. Not long term but for this year. Let's face it valbuena isn't going to hit 20+ home runs every season or even ever again. Gomez is a shell of his former self. The only way that anything gets turned around short term is if Gomez can fix himself (I don't see that happening) we know who jake is and what he isn't. 1st base is a revolving door. All this adds up to a team that's not a play off team. Keuchel is a mess. It's just not in the cards for this season it looks like.

All that said.

The future is still bright.

There several arms in the system there's not enough room and they have frontline level velocity. Between bregman Moran and jd davis 3rd base can be solved. Bregman can also be in left field also. We just gotta hope reed pans out and/or management will be willing to spend money on an outfielder and catcher.

Can't remember if it was here or somewhere else but the payroll difference between the Astros and rangers is shameful. We have to start spending money if we really want to compete. There were several big time arms for starters this year which could have alleviated keuchels woes but instead we got fister who albeit a pleasant surprise should not have been the answer for a team with ws expectations

If current Castro is legit, we need to keep him. We're fine at that spot compared to the rest of the league.

Outfield is big though. Maybe tonight starts common sense - play Moran every damn day. If he is legit at third, we can play Bregman in left and re-sign Rasmus.

Caveat: We have legit young starters coming. Trading Fister and/or Fiers could fetch the OF we need (I want Benintendi from Boston).

Reed will be up in a month and take over 1B for a long time.

He is. Throws four pitches that are legit, changes speeds. He is at least another Aaron Nola.

Benintendi

He was who I thought of the other day when I mentioned Boston as a potential trade partner, do you think the Sox would trade him for a guy like Fiers? I guess looking back on our 2 big trades, we had to give up a big piece to get Giles and Gomez/Fiers, so maybe it could work.

Considering they have Betts and Bradley already, I think Benintendi for a pitcher could easily happen. If Fister keeps dealing, he might be enough. Pair Fister with Tucker to get a lesser rated minor leaguer with Benintendi maybe?

Benintendi can bat leadoff so you can move Altuve behind him. Or he can just bat 9th for the same effect because Bregman is better and likely to become the No. 2 hitter.

Altuve
Bregman
Correa
Reed
Springer
Rasmus
Castro/Gattis
Moran
Benintendi

You know with how shitty the early part of the season has been hes been a decent surprise, idk what hes BA is but atleast he is taking walks no and isnt striking out on 3 pitches anymore.

Also Gattis as a backup is another good piece.

They would be okay at catcher with extending Castro and keeping Gattis as the backup, but the other areas have to be addressed. And those areas would need to be addressed to the point where Gattis isn't the usual DH.

Are there any decent corner bats on the free agent market this offseason? It seems like the list was pretty underwhelming all the way around, but it has been a while since I looked at it.

Both changed their approach once they got to the majors. Of course, the hitting coach has nothing to do with that because they really don't do anything.

Guys simply haven't matured as expected. Well, that and somehow shitty performance is all Hinch's fault.
