Castro is the closest thing we've got to a major league catcher even though he was garbage last year. God help us if we go with Corporan and Hank Conger as our catching corps. They're both barely backups. Stassi was a good prospect but he was awful at AAA last year.

Yeah I'm not saying we should trade him. I agree with Ryno that this would be a dumb time to deal him and I do think he can be a big piece of what is being built

I know I'm late to the party...but...
Conger???? What in the actual frick?

Why would they deal Tropeano for a backup? I just don't get it. Sign someone like Nick Hundley or Gerald Laird for cheap if they want to get rid of Corporan. I don't get getting rid of a young starter, back of the rotation or not, for someone like Conger

Sort of makes me believe that they have high hopes for some of their other pitching prospects that are in line to be called up in 15

Makes me believe we're going to go after another SP
Something like this:
Feldman
Free Agent
Keuchel
Folty
McHugh

Not mentioned by anyone is that the trade for Conger also frees up a spot on the Astros 40-man roster (Perez was recently added to it). So this deal might allow us to sign an additional free agent or a rule 5 player. Or it may be used to promote someone from within our organization to the 40-man roster to protect them from the rule 5 draft. Who knows?
And if Corporan is released because we acquired Conger, then the trade just created a second additional spot on the 40-man. At this point in the offseason with winter meetings and rule 5 draft coming up, flexibility with the 40 man roster might be highly valuable.

I'm in the Baton Rouge area. Does this mean I'm switching to uverse or is there any chance of Cox carrying this channel?

Castro and White Sox trade talks are heating up.
Luhnow when asked about Hanley said they would rather sign 1-2 year deals on positions where prospects are getting close.

Castro- he gone?

PHOENIX — All three of the Astros’ catchers have drawn interest from other teams, general manager Jeff Luhnow said Wednesday, including starting catcher Jason Castro.
Luhnow also acknowledged that he very well may reduce his trio of catchers to a duo.
“Because we have three major league catchers, I’ve had clubs inquire about all our catchers quite frankly,” Luhnow said at the GM meetings. “So we need to figure out some resolution prior to opening day. There’s no urgency.
“I think if you look at it, the chances of us carrying all three of those guys on the 25-man roster, something else would have to give. So I think there’s at least a 50-50 chance that some way or another, we’ll have gotten that three down to two.”

Last week the Stros reportedly offered David Robertson 3 years 39 million. Seems as though he was using us as his on the side whore to inflate his value.
Now word has come from Jon Heyman (I'm generally a skeptic of his) that the Andrew Miller contest is down to the Yankees and Astros. According to Heyman, the Yankees may be willing to give him a fourth year. Sounding like the Stros are being baited again.
