Boston Fans, please leave the pitchforks at home

quote:

The Celtics at that time offered a package centered on the 2017 first-round pick they were to receive from the Nets, as well as three other future first-round choices, a source said. That Nets pick, of course, ultimately turned into the No. 1 overall selection.

quote:

But the deadline came and went with no deal, and the talks were resuscitated prior to the NBA Draft. At that time, a source said, Boston offered the Pacers three starters and two first-round picks, although the offer did not include the pick Boston will receive from the Nets next year, or the future first-round pick they received when they sent the top pick this year to the 76ers.

Eventually, a league source said, that deal evolved to become three future first-round picks and two Celtics starters. But it turned out that was not enough, either. In the end, George ended up with Oklahoma City, and the Celtics were left to turn their focus toward their pursuit of the free agent forward, Gordon Hayward.

Like clockwork. Bird was running the show in indy at the deadline. If they were offering Indiana a good deal now they would have waited on them.

Ainge could've easily have either Boogie, Butler, or George right now

Ainge seems terrified to make a move that doesn't work out. He's the anti-Presti/Morey

I think he's caught in the middle. He has the pieces for a good team now and a good team in the future, needs to commit to being elite at one.

That's what confused me about the Horford deal. That was a sign they were gonna go for it. but he didn't follow up with any move to put them over the top.

I understand wanting to maintain long term stability though.

Ainge is a bitch

He is just wasting other executive's time by showing interest in these stars and not offering anything of value for them

Did you read the article? He can't make a deal until after the Hayward decision

Why did Indy move so quick? My guess is PG absolutely said LA next year and OKC took the one year rental to try to extend Russ and convince PG to stay

So Jimmy Butler and Paul George, 2 All-Star players and 2 of the most well-rounded players in the league, were both traded for far less value than they were worth to teams that are not major contenders (especially Minny). And somehow, Boston, with far more value to offer in return, and own of the historically great franchises (which I'm sure Butler and George would have supported being traded to), couldn't get them?

So we should believe this story that conveniently makes Aingle look competent, despite failing to obtain these top players; he was just a victim of inexcusable incompetence (Chicago and Indy)?

Yeah. This seems like a good example of fake news.

What? That's not what it said:
quote:

In the end, George ended up with Oklahoma City, and the Celtics were left to turn their focus toward their pursuit of the free agent forward, Gordon Hayward.
It's saying that now they are turning their focus to Hayward, not that it was contingent on Hayward. That doesn't make sense.

This doesn't make sense either. Besides giving incentive to trade him in the first place, why would it matter to Indy if PG was going to go to LA, as it relates to the decision with two offers on the table? After deciding to pursue a trade, the only thing that matters is the value in return, which favored the Boston trade (if the article it to be believed).

I would have given up a lot for Butler, PG not so much. Although I think going after Heyward and building through the draft is just fine. Especially with the FA crop slated for next year.

I think most agree the Celtics will not overtake the Cavs for another two years. While as fans, you want to rush into relevance, I think Ainge is showing great restraint in holding back. He goes after top level players but not at the expense of giving up what appears to be a promising future. The Celtics are poised to be the top team in the Eastern Conference in 2020. They have a stories franchise, a great young coach, and when LeBron begins showing signs of decline, it should make Boston a top FA destination. Looks like Ainge is playing the long game...

I dont know why no one is talking about the real reason this didnt go down. Pacers were not going to trade pg to an eastern team.

If they sign Hayward, maybe.

Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum isn't that impressive of a future core. They still have two picks left but neither is guaranteed to be as good as the two picks that got them Brown and Tatum.

Everyone here criticizing Ainge is clueless. Ainge was offering too much for PG if anything. You people also need to understand it usually takes more to get a star player traded within the same conference.
