We have evolved. It doesn't diminish what Owens did, but there is no subjectivity in a stopwatch.

Owens ran on a track made of dirt and sand wearing shoes made of leather with nails sticking out of the bottom. Holliday ran on high performance mondo tracks with shoes made from advanced synthetic materials. Owens didn't even have the benefit of starting blocks. Surely that has to have some effect on times, no?

As much as it pains me to say, the correct answer here is Jon Jones. MMA GOAT is Fedor and Jones has a realistic shot at passing him.

Don't most people already consider Bolt Phelps Tiger Federer and Serena to be the GOATs in their sports? I thought this thread was about people who could become GOATs not ones who already are.

Current athlete with best chance to be GOAT The reason I say Wilson is because of the bill Russell argument. He is in an ideal situation to pick up a couple of rings early and then improve as a player and finish his career leading his teams to rings. Any quarterback with 6 or more rings would be considered the GOAT by many people, and that number is not all that rediculous for Wilson.

Curry wont be the GOAT but he has a chance to go down as the greatest shooter of all time.

Probably, but .3 is a lot in the 100m.

Bolt is still clearly the greatest. That was the main point of my post.

1) LeBron James
2) Tiger Woods ( simply because he's already #2 if not #1 for some ppl and he can play a legit 10 more years excluding a career ending injury)
3) Messi
4) Tom Brady
5) JJ Watt
6) Adrian Peterson
7) Peyton Manning
8) Rob Gronkowski
9) Mike Trout
10) Tie: Rory Mcilroy/Anthony Davis

Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt are already GOATs IMO

No, though they all have a legit case. You could just as easily have a list of Lewis/Owens, Popov, Nicklaus, Laver, and Narvratilova. I think the idea of one person being the undisputed best of all time is usually unattainable anyway (unless you are Wayne Gretzky).

Wayne Gretzky's amassed records are so absurd its hilarious.

Most consecutive 40-goal seasons: 12
Most 100-point seasons: 15
Most consecutive 100-point seasons: 13
Highest points-per-game average (50 or more points) in one season: 2.77
Most career games with three or more goals: 50
Most shorthanded goals in a career: 73
Most games with three or more goals in one season: 10
Fewest games to reach 500 goals: 575
Fewest games to reach 1,000 points: 424
Most playoff points in a career: 382
Most playoff goals in a career: 122
Most playoff assists in a career: 260

i don't think any basketball players should be on the list. michael jordan is far and away the greatest basketball player of all time and will not be surpassed. He is probably the greatest athlete of all time, as well as an american pop culture icon. He also paved the way for the marketing of athletes as their own brand, and revolutionized the shoe industry. Lebron is the closest yet he is still so far behind, lol at steph curry or anthony davis being mentioned.

Jordan's greatness transcends basketball and sports.

Russell Wilson threw an INT on the 1 yard line on the final play of the Super Bowl.

That automatically excludes him from discussion.

Is it just me or are pocket QB's never athletic enough to consider them GoAT's? I'll say Wiggins.

What does athleticism have to do with being a great quarterback? I would take Brady over any mobile quarterback ever and I don't even care for New England.

Trout (chance to be best CF ever)
Federer
Nadal
Tiger
Adrian Peterson (chance to be greatest RB ever if he plays 3 more seasons and has avg years, he will be among the top 5 all time and would have an argument because of how physically athletic and dominant he is)
Messi
JJ Watt (chance to be greatest DL ever)
Luke Kuechly (chance to be greatest MLB ever)
Rodgers (chance to be greatest QB, not all time player)
Lebron (chance to be greatest overall player ever)
Kobe Bryant (his numbers put him in conversation)

Woods is to some people, mostly the younger crowd. He still has work left in my book, and the way he is looking now.. I don't think he wins another major. That's just my opinion. He's broken mentally and physically, but can be fixed.

Rory has the potential to be GOAT of golf with the kind of momentum he has. Dude has it rolling now.

Brady is a real possibility. If the Patriots win two more in a row, you have to consider him. The Patriots have a lot of high draft picks coming up. Replace the DT. Add another shifty slot WR/KR. One more RB. They can reload with just the 5 high picks they have and Belichek will pick up the D-II special teams player of the year & the D-III defensive player of the year with those 6's and7's.

Lol, if the Pats win 2 more Brady will be the most undisputed, unanimous GOAT in any sport.
