Wasn't really routine. Had some abdominal pain my primary and GI couldn't figure out. Got lucky and pointed to the right spot or else he would have just ordered endoscopy. Took a flyer on the backend while I was in there and stumbled across a ping pong ball.
Crazy part is they actually found an esophageal condition and ulcer and could have easily just treated that as the cause while the cancer got worse if we hadn't done the colonoscopy.
Colon cancer in younger people is rising and screening is still only happening regularly around age 50. Pretty frightening stuff.

Maybe they were downvoting cancer. Haha, it's the old conundrum of the confusing facebook like button.

Brave.. if I can ask. What were your symptoms leading up to the colonoscopy? I'm going in for one in 2 weeks. I'm also around your age.

Mainly a dull power in the lower right abdomen that would go flare up at times. Would shoot pain to all sides which is what was confusing at times.
That really was it. I thought I had some reflux issue or at worst something like Crohn's.

that's astonishing. they now say that colonoscopy is no better than checking for microscopic blood in the stool.

Holy frick. Colon cancer at 31?! You must have a family history, huh?
They don't even recommend screening (colonoscopies) for that until like your 40s or 50s.

This is how leukemia in older adults usually goes, it's incurable and results in repeated bouts of treatment and remission. The lucky ones extend their lifespans out to the normal range and die of something else, but it's often a 10-20 year marathon for many.

Colon cancer is on the rise in young adults, especially males. It's likely due to the low fiber, high protein diets that are so common in America today.
No joke, daily fiber supplements are important if you don't eat lots of fiber naturally.

Cancer is an a-hole, but a-holes can be beat too.
Fight the good fight and win!
