So he apparently got on a rant about Calipari's NBA players being "underwhelming" in the NBA because they haven't won enough playoff games. Forget the fact that 7 of his players are participating in the NBA All-Star weekend. Anyway, in the midst of his rant he drops these little gems:

quote:

“Kentucky guys are mostly immature, uncoachable, underwhelming or, in Anthony Davis’ case, spectacularly gifted but I’m still waiting for the first playoff win,”

quote:

"How long dog you gonna keep selling me Anthony Davis stock? I sold it two years ago," Cowherd said. "He's never won a playoff game. LeBron out of high school got there faster."

quote:

"Can I be honest about Calipari's Kentucky players - and frankly most of Calipari's players," Cowherd said. "In his 16 seasons, let's just go Memphis-Kentucky, if you line up his players they fall into two food groups: Really talented guys but really immature - (DeMarcus) Cousins, (John) Wall and Derrick Rose - and then really talented guys who are underwhelming in the NBA. Nerlens Noel. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is a No. 2 pick. Derrick Rose, No. 1 pick. John Wall, No. 1 pick - never got past the second round in the East. Marcus Camby - No. 2 pick, six different teams. Anthony Davis - gonna be the next big thing. Never won a playoff game. Julius Randle - fourth best Laker. Karl-Anthony Towns - Minnesota won't make the playoffs. Go look at the Phoenix Suns. Every guard on their roster went to Kentucky - Eric Bledsoe, Devin Booker. Brandon Knight, Tyler Ulis. That's the second worst team in the league. They're 15th in the Western Conference."

Karl Anthony Towns and Anthony Davis are underwhelming?

So cal's players are equivalent to Saban's rb? Is that where this is going?

That Anthony Davis and Karl Towns should also be responsible for the actions of a front office, other personnel, coaching, etc.?

Yes. Alabama RBs can't drag shitty teams to many playoff wins at the next level.

This is why it was funny when ESPN fired him. Too bad he already had the Fox gig.

They are really good players but they aren't carry an average to below average supporting cast to playoff wins kinda talent. The leadership skills are noticeably lacking for the majority of those players.

I would say that it's unreasonable to expect a handful of players drafted to teams who have struggled to make the playoffs without them and expect LeBron results as Cowherd claims they should all have to be considered not underwhelming.

I think their representation as players at the All-Star game says a lot more about their quality as a player.

And I think that more than Kentucky fans share that opinion.

Of course Cowherd would ignore that several of those players' careers were/have been derailed by injuries.

Yes, it's all Cal's fault that Rose, Noel, Bledsoe, and Camby were/are constantly hurt.

I did. He's claiming their inability to win playoff games are a direct correlation to their quality as a player. While willfully ignoring injuries, quality of players around them, quality of the front office/coaching directing them, etc. And claiming Calipari doesn't produce good NBA talent.

He thinks John Wall is "immature" because he danced in his intro. You'll have to forgive me for calling bullshite on how he quantifies maturity when that's his standard.

AD should be able to carry a mediocre roster to a playoff

He is what he is. We can look at what he's done and figure out if it should be good enough to lead a team to the playoffs.

Is it good enough to lead a team to the playoffs? If so, how is it his fault that the Pelicans suck so hard?

Oh God. Cowherd goes on about that like Wall pulled his dick out of his pants and waved it at a bunch of little old ladies and kindergartners. Forgive me for not getting worked up about a 19-year-old guy making his first start in the NBA doing a goofy dance during his intro. Wall has been a solid pro and a good citizen.
