They should wait until after this season.

Then trade him for a couple late round picks and/or promising defensive prospects.

ETA:

They have an absurd OL, a great young RB, a great young QB, and Dez Bryant.

The offense is set for years to come. They need to depth and talent on defense, especially up front IMO. They aren't getting 1st round for him but can probably get a 6th and 7th or a couple young guys on defense that are talented but unproven.

And they'd get rid of his salary which would be huge. They could be like the Seahawks and have a winning QB on a rookie pay scale. It would have to be a Vikings situation probably, where a team needs a QB to win now.

Cowboys are in an awkward position but to answer the question, no, you aren't getting a first rounder for Romo..

The Cowboys for the sake of the team and potential this season should slow play Romos recovery until Dak hits a wall.. Then proclaim Romo healthy and let him start.

When you consider what the eagles got for bradford, I bet they can get something good in return.

Bold statement considering he hasn't played a down in the regular season.

Oh and...REALLY!?!?! The guy who is known for blowing it in the playoffs is the better option to get to the Super Bowl?!?!

BTW, Dallas has the #2 offense (#1 rushing) in the league right now. That's with Dak at the helm. Back in 2014 (arguably the best cowboy's offense in the last 5 years), they were #7...the same season they had the #2 Rushing Offense. They were 16th in Passing Offense....with Romo.

So, tell me again how Romo is such a better option to get the Cowboys to the Super Bowl (which they have never done with Romo).

Where do you people come from?! He fumbled a snap on a field goal attempt that had nothing to do with playing qb. His playoff record is 2-4 but he has a completion rate of 62% with 8 td's and 2 interceptions with a qb rating of 93. Not world beater but not bum either.

I'm don't sure what Romo's salary situation is but that has a ton to do with it.

The only teams that would consider that kind of trade would be Super Bowl contenders with a "win now" mindset. Someone like Denver..or Minnesota if Sam Bradford remembers who he is.

You dont get it, you dont need a world beater at QB when you have good guys in the trenches. Dallas was in so many games last year but cassell and co were awful. Peyton manning last year was not better than dak now. With that line you dont have to do much but not turn it over, which he isnt doing. The defense isn't denvers but its good. The cowboys dont need much from the QB just more than cassell and dak is fine.

I think the Cowboys could get a first round pick for him if they package him with a third round pick and another player like the 49ers did when they traded Joe Montana. There are a lot of desperate teams out there who really need a QB.

Same thing people said about Peyton, and that only changed when he won 2 Super Bowls.

So what? He can put up stats. Congrats. Stats don't win games.

Oh, and, by the way, he dropped the snap in the Seattle game, threw an interception on the laat drive against the Giants, and threw an interception and had 2 lost fumbles in a 34-3 loss to the Vikings.

3 of the 4 losses can be directly tied to Romo's performance.

Seattle - Road game. Not many win in Seattle
Giants - Went on to win the Superbowl.
Vikings - Was a Farve interception away from the Superbowl, also on the road. Dallas had no offensive line.
Green Bay - Was possibly a catch/non catch away of winning that one. And if you think the Minnesota loss was on him then whatever.

Vikings traded a 2017 first-round pick and a 2018 fourth-round pick to the Eagles for Bradford. That 2018 fourth-rounder will actually be a third-rounder if the Vikings journey to the NFC title game this season. And if the Vikings win the Super Bowl, it'll turn into a second-round pick. Bradford is on a 2 year deal at $35 million.

Romo has 3 years left. Cap hit is $24.7 million in 2017, $25.2 million in 2018 and $23.7 million in 2019. I would assume he would be willing to restructure if need be to keep a starting spot and continue his career elsewhere. Even if he doesn't it's not a bad contract if he can stay healthy.

A team like the Jets would give up a first for Tony if they can make some room by Loomising.

Yea, that isn't how the nfl works

2016: $8.5m
2017: $14m
2018: $19.5m
2019: 20.5m

Yea, seems like a pretty great deal for the team that is trading for him actually.

Especially since $0 of that would be guaranteed and you could cut him at any point.

You can rationalize them all you want. You can point out road games, plays where he wasn't playing QB, poor offensive line play, whatever you want to. It doesn't change the fact that the success of the team, fairly or unfairly, is tied to the QB and the head coach. Offensive linemen don't have win-loss records when they go into the hall of fame. Neither do wide receivers. QBs do.

Seattle- wildcard game, Romo botches hold.

New York- had defeated the giants twice in the regular season, were #1 seed in the playoffs, threw interception while driving at end of game.

Minnesota- as the #3 Seed, gets blown out 34-3 at Minnesota, as Romo throws an interception and loses 2 Fumbles.

Green Bay- Wouldn't (and didn't in my other post) put this on Romo. They had an 8 point lead which was squandered by the defense. I believe Romo had 2 TDs in that game as well.

I don't hate Romo. I'm just ready to see the Cowboys move on. They've won 2 playoff games with Romo, and up until this year, the team was flat whenever they lost Romo. For the first time, they actually look like a good team when a guy not named Romo is under center.

Seattle - Romo literally fricked this one up all by himself.

Giants - Ended the game with a classic Romoception.

Vikings - Romo: 22/35, 198 yds, 5.8 avg, 0 td, 1 Romoception.

GB - Perhaps his finest playoff performance. This loss was not his fault, IMO.

But the way I see it you can always count on Romo to frick up late when there is something at stake.

Not all stat machines are meant to win Super Bowls. See: Danny White

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. They're currently 21st in passing offense right now. Romo was also incredibly efficient that year, while putting up the 6th best passer rating ever for a single season. Romo is the better QB when healthy. Dak has proven to be reliable so far. It's a good problem to have.
