Not trying to neg you specifically, and I get that Owens was an icon and am American hero, but don't see how anyone can say Bolt isn't the greatest track athlete ever.

Jesse Owens broke three world records and tied another in 45 minutes. No other track athlete has ever had an accomplishment that approached that effort.

quote:

In a single day of competition–May 25, 1935–Owens broke the world records for the 220-yard dash, the 220-yard low hurdles, and the running broad jump, and equaled the world record for the 100-yard dash.

Maybe Gretzky yeah. But I still don't understand how Jordan is a lock over Bill Russell.

To all the ignorant Track & Field "experts"

Two names you probably never heard of but better look up.

Carl Lewis (most should know)
Daley Thompson

And Jim Thorpe and Jesse Owens say, "hi"

People saying Bolt are truly ignorant of Track&Field

I think Gretzky is the GOAT, but I wouldn't say it's undeniable because one could make an argument for Mario Lemieux. At his peak he had a higher PPG than Gretzky, but unfortunately health issues took some years off his prime. Gretzky was able to stay healthy which is definitely a point in his favor, but skill wise Lemieux was right there with him

I pretty much agree with your list, except I would go with Ali in boxing.

He's a sprinter, plain and simple. Maybe he could be great at other T&F events, but he doesn't compete in them, guys like Owens and Lewis did. And even then people are excluding a number of events. How about Roman Sebrle, Olympic Record holder for the Decathlon.
