And I'm torn on the issue of the NBA having a 2 year college requirement.
As a Rockets fan I rather have our players in the D league rather than college. As an LSU fan i don't really care about college basketball

Do not think that would be a win for College Ball. If anything, more players might head straight for NBA out of high school than the previous system since now they'd have to go to College for (typically) at least 3 years instead of just being able to bolt after 1 season.
I think it would create a more even playing field for College ball while allowing the studs to get paid asap.
The NCAA would certainly lose some star power but I think it'd be more fun to watch teams and players develop over the course of 3-4 years

i don't want to see a change from 82 games though...

This is like 0% or a bunch of schools would have terrible APR scores and would be banned from the tournament.

They have to or Kansas and Duke would be screwed APR wise going forwards.

What about 3 years or you have to enter as Highschooler, and you have to put in at least 1 year in D-League if out of hs, before being able to get call up from Parent team?

Then every top 50 player in country would go to the D-League

Also of note in the article is possibly changing the lottery system and the playoff format (abolishing conferences when the postseason rolls around and just going with the 16 best records).
It is worth pointing out again that it wouldn't have changed much. Even though the East is worse than the West the only team that would be in from the West with the "16 best records get into playoffs" proposal would be Phoenix.
That's not much of a change.
Also kige the comments that you have to go to a completely equal schedule format if you go to a best records get in format. The argument for the teams with better records getting in revolves around schedule parity showing the relative quality of different teams. There is a down side to that approach. You do end up playing fewer regional games with more traditional rivals and fewer games against teams your fans can more easily travel to see on the road.

I don't like that the players union supports something they know is stupid.
The NBA Players Union and Owners both have a complete incentive to keep players in school for as long as possible (or at least for 2 years of college, for the owners).
The Players' Union wants to limit competition for their members aka people alreayd in the league. The owners want a large sample size and want to avoid picking the next Kwame Brown. Now it certainly screws the high school/college players, but that doesn't matter for the college coaches, the NCAA, the Players' Union, or the Owners.

I don't think college basketball has the right to have any say in the matter.
College athletics should be about the players/students. It's an extra-curricular activity.
They shouldn't be whining that the NBA takes the good players. A school has no right to an individual.

I mean there will always be guys like Daniel Orton or Avery Bradley who get a 0.0 in their second semester and actually leave campus before April, but that's going to be the exception in almost all instances.

It's not a college rule though. It's an NBA rule

I think its more that the new players will need a little less development and teams will get an extra year of their prime out of them.

That shouldn't even be in the discussion. Who cares what college bball or college bball fans want.
They get what's left.

Basically, the NBA owners want the NCAA to develop them. And NBAPA is looking out for the 10th,11th,and 12th man.

IMO they need to go like MLB. You can go out of high school but otherwise you have to wait until you're 21
I know the MLB draft works differently but I think something like that would be a win-win for NBA and college basketball

I agree, but I still don't see how you can legally tell an 18 year old adult he cannot make a living in his selected trade. Without having any legal knowledge, it seems like age discrimination.
