Having kids go to college is also better marketing than having them buried in obscurity in the D league.
but you only need 1 year of the marketing. that's why the 1-year rule is pretty genius
the NBA is sacrificing development for one year to get free marketing. seems like a fair trade off

This would kill college basketball, just like it's killed college baseball.

Sure, you'll get a few NBA prospects who genuinely want to go to college, but they'll be outnumbered by the vast majority of prospects who go pro, the majority of whom wouldn't be anywhere near ready for the NBA. The NBA doesn't have the farm system to support the numbers of prospects that would be declaring every year, and most of those prospects would end up in Europe.
College basketball would get the leftovers. With a diluted talent pool, college basketball would lose what national relevance it does have. College baseball employs a similar system and is less nationally relevant than minor league baseball.
And, either way, having prospects play college basketball is good for the NBA. It's a year of free scouting and free exposure. It ensures that guys like Austin Rivers aren't taken at the top of the draft. I doubt the NBA would want all of their prospects going pro immediately.

As for the proposed two year rule, I'm not really seeing how it'd benefit the NBA. It'd definitely benefit college basketball, but it's not like the NBA really cares about that.

So the Wiggins & Parker's of the World who know going into the Spring semester that they're gone after it are still taking classes & concentrating on their studies while playing in the tourney, interviewing agents, preparing for draft camps, signing endorsement deals, etc?
they have accelerated coursework and shite that they can finish early and focus on draft shite. embiid said a couple weeks ago that he was done with school and good to go.
that may be unique to kansas and a few other schools for guys like wiggins, parker, embiid, randle, but i doubt it.
im sure they are the easiest of classes and shite, but it gets taken care of by the player with help from the school.
