I think they should go back to a single game championship

One game take all was definitely more exciting back in the day.

The sport was always a niche gimmick in college.

Only fans of teams in it really tuned in and acted like it was a big deal.

They need to do something; it's a million miles away from March Madness and closer to water polo in #s.

That's the harsh reality and the #s back me up.

College baseball was never really popular outside 6-7 schools with LSU being easily the most passionate of those. The reason no one is in the stands is because LSU is not there or one of the other handful of teams that would bring a lot of people.

Watch the "walk off" ESPN show on LSU vs Miami and its unbelievable how packed and exciting Omaha was compared to now.

the 3 game series may be less exciting than a winner take all game, but your entire season is based on series playing multiple games. Regionals is double elim, supers is double elim, CWS is double elim, then suddenly have a winner take all for all the marbles. The 3 game series was a good move.

well it also balances out the format.

4-team regional, best of 3 super regional.

then the college world series is basically a 4-team regional, followed by a best of 3 super regional.

Omaha is still pretty packed for the championship series. Having the game delayed a day does a number on attendance. You have to reschedule flights, maybe hotel reservations, etc. Not easy for the average fan to do.

I went to game 2 of the 2013 championship series place was packed until UCLA went up big.

one other thing, lots of Omaha natives go to these games, most of them won't go to a middle of the day work week game even for a winner take all. Look at the difference between a mid-afternoon game and a primetime game a-lot different.

They changed the championship format from winner take all on national tv on Sunday afternoon when it competed with nothing, to a three game set on ESPN19

As mentioned, it started on ESPN and there was a weather delay.

I know I've seen some people complain about the time of the game (during the day on Thursday) and I wonder how much of it is due to the US Olympic Swimming Trials being in Omaha at the same time. They've so far drawn over 200,000 fans (total attendance in all heats/finals).

The new stadium is nice but it's a bland corporate piece of shite that's way too big in it's location and with these bats.

Rosenblatt had so much character and history.

It's really a shame what the CWS is now.

I don't see how they can make it more popular. The season competes with NHL and NBA playoffs along with Summer MLB and all the soccer tournaments

The rule changes they've made have made the game difficult to watch at times

What rule changes?
The bats have gotten better.

New stadium is garbage, need to move the fences in about 20 feet.

Best of 3 for the championship is good. College baseball is all about the 3 game series all year long

Too much. I would say leave the foul lines as they are, bring dead CF into 400 and then round the fence. Power alleys are too deep. Need to be about 365 instead of 375.

3 game series is much better format.

You're right about ESPN putting on the final game at noon. WTF!

You can get your thrills watching slow pitch softball.

That's what BB was in the 90's.

I agree but 2000s were a good balance I thought.
The latest rule changes weren't related to bats. Offense has gone up due to the improved ball. Still needs improvement IMO

Back in the middle to late 2000's, college baseball was perfect IMO. The bats were deadened from the ridiculous 90's to a damn near perfect degree. The games for fun to watch. I would watch CWS games even when LSU wasn't in the series because balanced, good baseball really is a fun watch.

Now it is miserable. I struggle to watch LSU regular season games now because of the dead bats. The fear of a 3 run homerun ball changing a game with the quickness is virtually gone. Factor in how awful the new TD Ameritrade park in Omaha is combined with the new offense killing bats and the CWS is even WORSE entertainment than regular season baseball and offers even greater advantages to teams that already lean on pitching and defense.

Step one should be immediately returning the 2000's bats. That's really all that is necessary IMO to return college baseball to a legitimate entertainment product again. Of course it isn't going to happen, but it's an easily correctable issue.
