Def need to bring back Shumpert. If nothing else, his defense makes him worth it.

JR Smith - Player Option (Opted Out Dont Match)
Mike Miller - Player Option (Hopefully he retires)
Timofey Mozgov - Team Option (Pick up Option)
Matthew Dellavedova - RFA (Dont Match)
Tristan Thompson - RFA (Match Offer Resign)
Iman Shumpert - RFA (Dont Match)
James Jones - UFA (Release)
Brendan Haywood - UFA (Release)
Kendrick Perkins - UFA (Release)
Shawn Marion - UFA (Release)

In theory yes these would be the moves, but forgetting Lebron and his personal connections to some of these guys makes it hard to predict what happnes.

I think Love gets shipped out and they retool around building more permanent depth. Getting guys that each have specific skill sets and letting Lebron bring up the other areas. See Rayu Allen coming to play with them, and Smith resigning.

I will be very curious to see how Cleveland reacts to these two

Do other teams force their hand and offer them above market value just to hurt them?

Will be very interesting. Probably the single most interesting off-season in a long time. Because its the year before the cap, the best GMs will really seperate themselves this offseason.

Delly could be Jeremy Lin 2.0. Someone over pays for a small sample size and regrets it later. I could see someone trying to play chicken with the Cavs and then getting burned

Tristian Thompson is gonna get PAID.

I agree that they need to make changes, but don't be reactionary. They went to game 6 of the Finals without Love and Kyrie. Shumpert would be a really good role player off the bench. As would JR but it looks like that ship may have sailed.

Philly traded away Igoudala. I would call him a worthwhile piece. Maybe he wasn't to them but he's great on an already establised team.

Worthwhile is a relative term. One team's overpaid player can be another team's key role player.

I don't foresee them having much difficulty finding a willing trade partner. Most lottery teams are trying to offload salary to make room for free agents.

Philly traded Iggy for Bynum before we all knew he was done. They weren't just giving him away for an expiring.

So your opinion is that it will be difficult for them to trade away Haywood's contract?

I don't know if you're just arguing to be arguing or if there's something specific about this expiring contract. There's never a shortage of teams looking to offload salary.

I think they'll be able to trade it away, I don't think they'll get someone the caliber of Butler or Wade (look at the original comment that I was responding to).

Oh I know it's a pipe dream, but could you imagine two of the best two way players on the same team like that?

What they should do

quote:

Lebron James - Player Option (Resign)
Kevin Love - Player Option (Resign)
JR Smith - Player Option (Opt in)
Mike Miller - Player Option (Hopefully he retires)
Timofey Mozgov - Team Option (Pick up Option)
Matthew Dellavedova - RFA (Dont Match)
Tristan Thompson - RFA (Dont match)
Iman Shumpert - RFA (Resign)
James Jones - UFA (Resign)
Brendan Haywood - UFA (Trade)
Kendrick Perkins - UFA (Release)
Shawn Marion - UFA (Release)

They need to resign Shumpert and lock him up. When healthy he is an elite defender and his offensive game is coming along. If they can get JR to opt in that would be great to. He compliments Lebron well.

Delly needs to be let go. He really isn't that good. He was a terrible backup all season and he got "hot" defending some teams in the playoffs and people are acting like he's a beast. No way should they resign him for 5+ mill a year.

Tristan Thompson is a great player to come off the bench but he in no shape or form should be signed on for 15 mill a year. Kevin Love, Mozgov, and Verajo is definitely good enough. TTs offensive game is atrocious, he's an average defender, but an elite rebounder. You don't pay a guy like that 15 mill.

If they sign him for 15 mill and keep verajo at 10 mill the Cavs are 100% frickED in the next 5 years from a salary standpoint. Super fricked if Love leaves (which I don't think he will.)

I would drop Miller bc he is worthless on this team but I would keep James Jones. He's a veteran who can still knock down some 3s and is Lebrons boy.

quote:

I'm good either way with Love's decision. If he leaves that opens up all kinds of $$ for the Cavs to bolster their roster.

No it doesn't. If he leaves and we sign TT for 15 mill we are already over the Cap.

Lebron - 22 mill
Kyrie - 18 mill
TT - 15 mill
Verajo - 10 mill

Those 4 players are 65 mill right there. Shump is probably gonna get ~8 mill. Mozgov is at ~5.

They need to keep Kevin Love and lock him up long term with his bird rights.

I could see some team throwing a lot more money than that at him.

Yeah I really don't know how to judge it. I really think he has an alright offensive game he just rarely uses it. And his defense is solid. I could see 10 Mill..

Kyle Lowry got 12 Mill last year so I know he should definitely be below him.

Lance Stephenson only got 9 mill last offseason and he was considered a better player then than Shumpert is now.

This cavs team just needs to get healthy. Love varejo and irving healthy would be a 4-5 game series win for the cavs. Sign the role players to decent contracts, trade haywoods expiring and dont let emotions get in the way of letting someone like delly walk. Back up point and back up for Bron would be key. They have plenty in the 4 and 5 positions

You guys dont think Wade coming to Cleveland is a good move? Listen, i understand thinking about long term moves, but i just want to win a dam chapmionship in my lifetime! If they can find a way to keep the team mostly in tact, let a few guys go and bring in Wade, i would take that in a sec.

Starting 5:

Kyrie Irving PG
Dwayne Wade SG
Lebron James SG/PF
Kevin Love PF
Timofey Mozgov C

Bench:

Anderson Varajeo
Tristan Thompson
JR Smith
Iman Shumpert
James Jones

That team wins the NBA title next season. I just want to win. I think that gives us the best chance to win.

As of now, Miami isnt going to pay him. They are going back on their word. In fact, what they are offering him is disrespectfull. The rumor mill has him leaving Miami as of now. Most people think Cleveland or Chicago are likely destinations.
